I know, this is not a survival skill. But it's still a wilderness skill of some sort, and when I found this simple thing by chance in a little creek in slovenia I was awestruck and couldn't stop staring at it. It worked extremely well, constantly turning at a good speed.

Pretty damn cool....Now finally a worthy re-buttle to the LNT-crowd :D :D :D

Hey sodak,

although it looks like it, this wasn't made of bamboo. It was some freshly cut green wood, I didn't investigate further though. I can send a large sample if somebody knows his twigs and wants to categorize this :)

best regards,

ll.

Who said its not a survival skill? :D

But seriously, thats pretty cool.

Haha, nice one ecos! Of course I had my ghillie suit on as always, so I didn't end up on his bbq! :D

Really cool, Sir! :)

Thanks for sharing - just showed it off to my wife "That´s cute" - she said.

Really cool. Going to have to try and make one now! :)

I've never seen one made like that! It will give me something new to show my granddaughter the next time we walk a creek. BTW, a small leaf would work for the paddles. That is what I use to make a rubberband powered paddle-wheeler boat for the kids.

I lol'd at this :D

aWESOME. Will be making one now. I'm sure there is some tradition associated with it.

That is so f-ing cool I can't stand it. I have no choice, I have to make one now. The thing is, not a lot of twigs are going to split as nicely as that did. I don't know what grows in Slovenia, but here in the Northeast US, I'm thinking maybe striped maple? Any other suggestions?
