Anyone ever order a custom Griptilian from Benchmade's website?

I see the custom Griptilian maker on benchmade's website, and it looks really cool. Without a doubt I would use it if I were to buy a Griptilian.

What I am curious about is putting custom logos/lettering on the blade. It allows you to upload an image, but how do you know how it will look on the blade itself? A cursory google search doesn't show any examples of finished products using custom blade images. Is it only for logos, or can more complex pictures be used? It mentions not using copyrighted work, so that would apply to sports teams/ college logos and the like?

Anyone have pics of what the finished product would look like, paying special attention to custom text and images on the blade?

Thanks all.

I ordered one from the site. BM customer service sent me a picture of the blade with the graphic I wanted to review before I placed the order. BM customer service was great. The grip was more expensive than what you pay elsewhere but I wanted the custom version and thought it was worth the money.

No picture available from me, buy a guy I work with has ordered 2 or 3 mini grips off their website. The laser etching looks fantastic, hr got his cattle brand etched on and it looks great. They can do pictures, but it can't be extremely elaborate. Black and white photos are the best to chose from. You can always draw something you want and scan it into your computer saving it as a jpeg for them to use. The same guy had his 707 lasered on the aluminum handles. They screwed up one side and fixed it free of any charge to him. Really great service.

Is grey not an option? Im really itching for a grip with grey scales. So much that im almost willing to trade some higher end knifes for one lol.

I can't send you a PM, or an email. Go to Google and search "benchmade Griptilian gray exclusive". I hope that helps, although it may not be the shade you want.

You can leave me visitor messages. I didnt google it and found out about it. My local knife shop had two grey scaled grips with coated blades last time I was there! I hope they still have them! Thanks for the pointer!

I hadn't checked for awhile, but it seems the prices have gone up. I spec'd out a twin to my first mini grip, only with sand scales, and it came up $145

I'm looking at a similar looking mini grip, man. but a few questions.

anyone ale to tell me the difference between the three different types of black listed for their clips on the build a grip site? lol

I have my mind on what I consider a "storm trooper" mini grip. white scales, black sheepsfoot blade, black hardware. Is there a clip finish that most closely matches the blade coating and/or the black hardware?

the things I'm unsure about are which black clip to go with, which steel between 154cm and d2, and partial serrations or not.

This knife is basically going to be a huge change up for me. normally I like uncoated plain edge. how does the combo edge on the mini perform?

As far as steels, I've wanted to try both for a long time. I value both high wear resistance tool steels, and easier to sharpen stainless. and I hear bm does 154cm right...

Well first of all, the black clips are painted or black oxide. I much prefer the black oxide. Its like a parkerized or matte finish that wears smoothly. The painted clips look better when new and would probably better match your blade, but they wear by chipping down to the bare shiny metal. I recommend the black oxide standard or split arrow clip. PS the white and black grips look great, my brother has one, and one just like it is on my list.

Both steels are good to go, d2 probably slightly better. And definitely plain edge. The mini grip's blade is just too short to use with partial serrations.

I posted a thread a while ago with this knife, there was also another thread similar to this one that Benchmade posted a pic of one with an image I believe. I don't have pictures but here is what the text will look like. The clip is the parkerized/matte finish one. This one is full size, I plan one getting a matching mini grip in the future.
