anyone ever own asolo boots?

I have a pair, as does my wife, and they seem to run pretty normal. I would STRONGLY advise that you try them on, as there is more to boot fitting than just proper size. For example, there are no Lowa boots that are comfortable for her, even ones that are properly sized.

I agree with Eric. I also own several Asolo boots and are right on the mark with size. However, I did buy a pair of Asolo boots from Sierra Trading Post about 10 years ago, and those did run small (maybe defective, irregulars?).

You have to try on a pair first. The last that companies use are different for different target markets.

Even Italian boot companies use different lasts depending on where the boots are going to be sold. Zamberlan and i think Scarpas will have different lasts for the UK market and another different last for the Japanese/Asian market. So it's very difficult to decide just based on your normal shoe size.

If you still insist on getting asolo then go to the nearest store that has that particular model and try 'em. If it fits then you can go home and order over the net. I still think that it's important to get them properly fitted. Sometimes certain brands no matter how much you want 'em will not fit you. I find Meindl's to be too big in the heel for me. Same with Scarpas. However with other brand i find the footbed to be too narrow. So it is a compromise.

If you do find tha Asolo fits you then buy it. It is a good brand and should do what it's supposed to do.

Agreed. I used to have a pair, they were a bit narrow for me. If you have broad feet you may find zamberlan better... I do :)

I would try the boots on at a local store. My wife and I have both had Asolo boots with mixed results. Hers have held up very well, but took awhile to break in well. I had a pair of the Pinicale model that fell apart. The sole delamentated. When I attempt to return them for warranty work I was told they where to old and would not be covered. The boots where about ten years old but had only been worn lightly. There or four light day hikes a year. I was not happy with this, as I felt use not age should have been considered. Your mileage may vary.

I had some Asolo hikers a while back & had to go up either a half or whole size. And yes, italian shoes do tend to run narrower.

Hi All-

As mentioned earlier, Asolo is a well-respected name in hiking boots. You'll want to look under the mountaineering or hiking sections of their site, depending on your intended use. In addition to traditional leather models, they also have interesting boots utilizing a thermoplastic shell. I've never owned a pair myself, but have heard good things from friends and people I've encountered on the hiking trails about their product line.

As an aside, the Internet is NOT the source for purchasing everything in this world. A poster made a comment earlier about trying the boots on elsewhere and then returning home to purchase them online...

If a specialized store provides you excellent service, solid fitting advice, and exposure to a bunch of different boot companies...they have EARNED your business. If it costs you a few extra dollars, just throw them the bone. The economy depends on a balance of online suppliers along with bricks n' mortar locations. Because I wish to be able to try before buying, I will ALWAYS obtain my high-end equipment from a storefront retailer.

I have owned a few pairs of Asolo boots although it has been about ten years now. One pair had the sole delaminate over time. I wore these for work almost everyday and were very comfortable.

I called Asolo to find a service center to repair them to find out that specific model could not be repaired. Next, that model was out of production. They did eventually send me a pair of replacement boots of the new production line. The new pair was supposedly the same size as my first set, but they were smaller. Called Asolo and was told to break them in and they would stretch to fit. Not happening. Called Asolo and they would not help me on that now. Put them on the side. Oh well, got a different brand.

I am in full agreement with the above posts. If you are going to a store to have them help you choose the proper product and size to suit your specific needs, they have earned your business by providing an educated sales staff and fronting the capital to have the inventory available to you.

i have had nothing but great success out of the better asolo boots. have had a pair of 520 gtx for 8 years and i work in the outdoor field so they have seen their share of use. i climb in annapurnas. a little heavy, but definitely a beefy boot. spent a summer climbing volcanos in them, an eyelet ripped out and they sent me a new pair.

contrary to most above post, i find that asolos run medium to wide. i can't even get my feet in la sportiva, but my asolo are perfect. i also did not think they were italian. hum?

i also agree with the above post. if you spend time in a store and have a good experience, buy from that store. if everybody bought on line, where would we be able to try on boots?
