I did a search but couldnt find what I was looking for. I may have an older (brand unknow) that will be given to me for $20 bucks. Its a top loading deal so it will stink diving in there for a blade. Could I hang blades in there and snatch them out to quench fast enough?

Thanks for any input.

oh damn.......I'll get on getting that sucker!

What sort of face sheald and protection will I need to get?

Buy stainless rod to hang em with?

This could be a good thing to have :D

I doubt you will want to be looking down into it as you fetch the blade. Do you know what the top end temperature of this kiln is? You'll want a good pair of welder's gloves.

Just use long tongs and grab from the sides?
I think I will need to get a new temp knob for it. This one has low, me, and high only(I think).
What type of steel can I use to hang the blades?

This could be a good thing if I can get it working.....

 This one has low, me,
you may want to rethink unless you get a differant control for it.

I am not sure what it has. I t sounds like it has a basic controller... I dont know that it has anything to monitor temp. I know the guy said he used cones to determine the temps.

You can keep a look out on Ebay for one and use cones to checks its calibration. Do you have an idea what the top end is?

Spend a little money and get a pyrometer. Or better yet, get a programmable temp controller. They are all over ebay, and will remove question about temp.

Sounds like a great little project, and the price is certainly right.

I'll bet not
where it has LOW MED and HIGH only

you can if you have to buy the other stuff you want, that unit if used for ceramics I would think would max out close to 2000
if not and you have the weight in insulation you can replace or up grade the elements and add the controller and pyrometer

I'll post pics if I can get it. Thanks for the help. If I get it working I am going to be tickled pink!

I do think a programable temp controler is a good idea. Once I get it maybe you can give me ideas about what to look for.

RLinger - I dont know what the top end is?

Well hurry up! Leave work now and go get it! What is taking you so long?! It is going to be gone if you wait much longer (cause I am gonna go get it...hahaha).

Just a little ribbing, and let us know when you do get it. If not I may be able to help point you in the direction of building one.

Thats useful MArk. I wish they had a programable themp controler. I think there is a place in Charlotte that sells stuff like this. I'll wait to get the kily then post the images. Maybe I can figure what all I will need.

Got the old Kiln in my truck! I'll email pics later :D THis baby needs reworked but looks fixable!
