Anyone ever rescued an abused Buck?

In an overpriced antique store was a box of cheap fixed blade knives. Most said, "Japan" or "Stainless" and all were marked "$10." A lonely Buck 119 had a broken tip, a horrific edge and no price tag. I asked the lady , "How much?" She Facetimed her husband and showed him the knife. I expected him to say, "$20" based on it being a Buck. I would have left it. But he said, "$10." So I bought it.

I should emphasize how little I need this knife. I have a beautiful 119. But it seemed to need rescuing.

Pictures later.

I've picked up a few of the 700 models with broken or damaged blades and scales over the years. I call the my little lame ponies. The 700 models have always held a strong appeal for me. A very "overbuilt" slip joint and I like'em. I'll use my lame ones to repair others or just leave them as they are.

I don't know that I have ever done the actual work if that's what you mean. I've sent some off to Buck and Leroy for anything other than basic clean and sharpen. Here's an early 124 that I posted about several years ago, it was sent to Leroy. I use it for my avatar. Preston

In the past I have bought a 120 with a broken tip and reshaped it. I have also bought a 192 with a broken tip.

Bottom knife had a broken tip

Top knife had a broken tip.

Not sure if you call this 112 abused or not. Cleaned it up for a friend at work.

Would agree with every word....great knives!! The most I've done is taken a beaten-up 300-series slippy and work it back to carry shape. By that I mean I've taken oil and Flitz and re-worked the knife cavity and blades.......and I've worked the edges as well. Buck knives are worthy of everything we can give 'em........just my opinion:barbershop_quartet_

All worthwhile rescues.

Congrats to the owners.

I intend to rescue this one some day by sending it back to Buck for a reblade. I was asleep at the wheel when I flippantly purchased this selector handle off eBay. I was thinking Selector.... replaceable blade, no problem... oops, this is a 428 and it's the fixed blade that's crap. Remember children, turn off the power before cutting electrical wires...

Here is a beat up 110 I picked up and sent to Buck for rework. The brass bolsters and entire frame had dents, dings everywhere. Buck did a fantastic job bringing this knife to as new condition. They replaced the blade and removed all dings and polished it from stem to stern.

Bad condition

As new condition
