Anyone ever tumble your Sebenza slabs?

Considering tumbling my small Seb slabs in walnut shells to see what it does to the snail trails. Has anyone ever tried this or similar? I don't want to screw it up, but wonder how it may look compared to returning it for spa treatment/sand blasting.

Thanks

Not on a sebenza but i did it to a sage 2. Came out nice. I like the look of it but i lightly sanded the slabs first so they would take the stonewash more readily. Slabs ended up a little slick but they look nice. I used ceramic media on mine.

I remember a thread someone started at least 1.5 years ago. I don't remember what he used as media for tumbling tho.

I think he mentioned something about the fact that the inside of his dryer didn't look the same after he used small pieces of concrete for media. :D:)

There really was a thread about tumbling for a stone wash finish on this forum.

Here's the one I'm talking about. Arguably has character, but there's also the 'want to spruce it back up' aspect.

Here are my supplies. I also have some of the ceramic HF media, but they are large chunks and would really do a job on the slab. I was thinking along the walnut media and not sure if they would do more polishing or 'sanding'.

I stone washed the clip on a Southard, after I modded the clip. I used whatever media I had in my handgun brass

tumbler and small and small medium size stones/rocks. This gave the clip a nice s w finish. I had to run the

tumbler for at least 10-12 hours IIRC.

I have not tumbled a sebenza slab, but have done several various blades. I have done it with a ball mill more recently, but prior to getting one I put the blade in a Tupperware container with the media (ceramic balls usually) and would throw it into the dryer. Use the no heat setting:)

If you google "stonewashed sebenza" there's a pic of one done by a guy who goes by the name Maprik. He's here on BF and has a bunch of pictures if you want to get an idea of how it looks. I personally think it looks awesome I just haven't worked up the nerve to do it to one of my sebenzas. I'm also a little concerned about voiding my warranty.

Voiding warranty? Is there any warranty on a knife I bought used? If so, then I'd never do this myself and would send it to CRK for sure.

Well i guess that clears up the warranty issue with stonewashed handles. Sorry, didn't mean to mislead you. I know that certain mods can void the warranty. I'm pretty sure the warranty follows the knife for it's life despite changing owners, although i've been wrong before.... Hehe.
If anyone knows for sure please let us know.

I've read of using small pea-sized stones...of the kind you might buy at Hobby Lobby. Have not attempted anything like this myself. The one I read about...put the stones and scales in a metal can and wrapped the can securely in towels, and then put it into the dryer.

Maprik does good work in anodizing...have not watched his stonewash video however.

Well, i got ambitious and looked up the CRK warranty for myself.
