Hi Folks,
Curiosity anyone have any good or bad things to say about the AWD version of Audi's 2008 A6 (Quattro 3.2 engine). This is the one that doesn't have the sketchy CVT tranny in it.

I put a downpayment/hold on one with 70K miles on it today and the dealer is bringing it out on Monday. I can pull out on it before hand, but I am feeling more or less ok with it. I have checked out a couple of Audi forums and have not seen anything glaring so far. Just wanted to see what the gear heads might have in terms of opinions. Looking for reasons to back out of this, meaning I want to be comfortable with this purchase it's a second car for the wife.

Moved to G&G

As for the Audi I'd stay away unless it has a warranty. I had a friend with the A6 (4.2) that had nothing but problems. Started with the steering rack then it was the all-wheel-drive system and I believe the last thing before he got rid of it the climate control panel.

When I see them for sale it's usually between 65 and 100,000 miles. There must be a reason. I took it as the warranty was over so they need to get rid of it.

Rycen thanks for bringing up 4.2. The 4.2 and the cars equipped with front wheel drive CVT tranny's have known problems for 2008. I have scoured the internet to see if there are any glaring issues with the 3.2 AWD Quattro and so far have not seen anything yet. So I'm hoping to find or not find at the end of the day an achilles heel on the 3.2. I'm waiting word back from a family friend who is an Audi mechanic right now.

Overall they're nice cars. Same as a VW. Most of the ones that come through my shop are in need of small things. Under the hood is mostly plastic components so after years of heat and cold they tend to crack and leak or set off CEL's. In order to do timing belts on them the whole front clip must come off, that's a big labor charge there. You may want to see if they'll do it before you buy it. I believe they're done at 100k.

Suzuki thanks. The regular CVT has a timing belt, but the AWD version that I'm interested in has a timing chain.

Is this true for the new 2014/2015 S4?

Grouch the new s4 has a chain. It's in the back and requires a full pull out of the engine but the chain is supposed to last the life of the engine.

I was lucky enough to chat up my brother whose buddy is the head mechanic at a NJ dealership. The scoop is the awd has no known issues so I went for it last night.

Got it at an OK price too.

Thanks it's for the wife though! I'll still be humming around in my Toyota!
You one critique are the the mirrors are dinky as hell. Like how my old Ducati's mirrors were too small except you can't get off your rear and spin your head around like how you could on a bike.
