I live here, but am sketchy at best on the laws concerning the carrying of bladed weapons. I don't believe my concealed weapons permit allows me to carry anything concealed other than pistols, although in some other states it does (such as FL). So does anyone know what "legal" blade length is in West Virginia? And does that entitle me to carry any bladed weapon concealed if it is of that length or less (as in if I wanted to carry a tomahawk... it's just a question, no flames please)? Thanks for any help you all can offer.

Here is West Virginia's law:

West Virginia - 61-7-2. Dangerous weapons... Definitions...
(2) "Gravity knife" means any knife that has a blade
released from the handle by force of gravity or the
application of centrifugal force, and when so released is
locked in place by means of a button, spring, lever, or
other locking or catching device. (3) "Knife" means an
instrument, intended to be used or readily adaptable to be
used as a weapon, consisting of a sharp-edged or sharp-
pointed blade, usually made of steel, attached to a
handle, which is capable of inflicting cutting, stabbing
or tearing wounds. The term "knife" shall include, but not
be limited to, and dagger, dirk, poniard or stiletto with
a blade over three and one-half inches in length, any
switchblade knife or gravity knife... A pocket knife with
a blade three and one-half inches or less in length, a
hunting or fishing knife carried for hunting, fishing,
sports or other recreational uses, or a knife designed for
use as a tool or household implement shall not be included
within the term "knife" as defined herein, unless such
knife is knowingly used or intended to be used to produce
serious bodily injury or death... (4) "Switchblade knife"
means any knife having a spring-operated blade which opens
automatically upon pressure being applied to a button,
catch or other releasing device in its handle... (9)...
The term "deadly weapon" shall include, but not be limited
to, the instruments defined in subdivisions (1) through
(8) of this section...
- 61-7-3. (a) Any person who carries a concealed deadly
weapon, without a state license... shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor...
- 61-7-8... a person under the age of 18 years who is not
married or otherwise emancipated shall not possess or
carry concealed or openly any deadly weapon... [exempts
own premises; lawful hunting]

shootist16, thank you very much for that information. Is there a website where I could go view the entire thing? Also, does article 61-7-3 mean that I can carry any bladed weapon concealed as long as it is under 3.5 inches long and would need a special permit/liscense to carry anything longer, or am I misinterpreting it?

Found this in regards to a permit:

61-7-4. License to carry deadly weapons; how obtained.

(a) Except as provided in subsection (h) of this section, any person desiring to obtain a state license to carry a concealed deadly weapon shall apply to the sheriff of his or her county for such license, and shall pay to the sheriff, at the time of application, a fee of sixty dollars. Concealed weapons permits may only be issued for pistols or revolvers. Each applicant shall file with the sheriff, a complete application, as prepared by the superintendent of the West Virginia state police, in writing, duly verified, which sets forth only the following licensing requirements:
