Anyone finding their Skeleton Key's not that sharp?

Is it the fact that it's such a little knife that it's harder to get a proper edge or something?

My new Hell Razor will shave hairs off my arm and slice edges of paper with nice smooth cuts. The SK does neither. It feels fairly sharp, but doesn't seem to cut anything well. It hangs on the paper. When it does cut, it's more a tear than a cut.

Is it just in need of a stropping? I'm looking towards those who have one to give me their experience. Maybe I'm just looking at this all wrong too. That's never happened before. LOL

Thanks guys. Appreciate all the help.

I have found Busses to not come as sharp as they can be. It seems like they are not finished in a very fine grit. I usaly just start over, working my way to a much finner grit. A few passes on the strop after that, and they are shaving sharp.

i havent actually gotten a busse factory edge that i was satisfied with. even the little zero edge assault shaker i got wasnt where i wanted it to be.

it seemed like what happens when you strop with to much pressure. you get a super high polised edge that looks for all intents and purposes like its at a really acute angle - but the very cutting portion of the edge is actually fairly obtuse. like a very large microbevel.

when i resharpen most of the ones i've had, i find that they are 35 degrees per edge or more (70 degree's included) at the cutting edge. because its such a high polish, it'll shave - but once it dulls even a little i have a hard time cutting fabric with it.

the skeleton keys are kind of a pain to sharpen unless you have a grinder with a wheel.

once you bring it down to 24 degree's per side, you start to hit the edge of the spine (the keys being hollow ground). you can definitely get them there though :D

Sort of Depends, some were sharp some were not, seems to happen from time to time.

What I do not care for is when I get a knife I can not sharpen, also happens from time to time.

I just sell those, letting the buyer know I have a problem sharpening a particular knife.

Most of my Busse knives come at least hair dragging sharp from the factory.

Some you just wave at your arm and do not even need to get close to your arm, just plain "Scares" the hair off of my arm.

With those you can take a single hair and make it into a fuzz stick, splitting the single hair repeatedly.

Mine was not overly sharp when it arrived. However, it only took a couple of minutes on a fine ceramic stone to get it as sharp as I want it.

I haven't really figured out what to do with it yet, but it is a cute little thing.
