just saw a satin combo edge at a B&M. But it was the only one in the shipment, and someone was already fondling it with the clear intent of buying. Also, this place has had an Apparition for a couple weeks and got a 41ss toay with the 425. Seems funny to me how a B&M gets in a knife that I can only seem to preorder online.

ahh, there's one :) I guess nobody drop ships BMs, or BM isn't trying very hard to get them to the internet retailers (must be MAAP or something). That site reminded me, the B&M also had a Sequel in the shipment. I just wish they weren't so weird with the pricing. Some blades are only ~15% above what I find online, others are 50%+ higher, and some actually the same or cheaper than online. And I mean BM, Spydie, Microtech, Emerson, etc., not the cheap stuff.

Benchmade doesn't drop ship, and they are trying to do everything to stop discounting.

If Benchmade cracks down on online discounting like they plan on, everything will be retail price across the board.

That really doesn't make sense to me. If they were going for some sort of high end image, I could see it. But, they wouldn't have come out with the red class if that were the case. BM makes their sales to distributors or retailers, I don't see why they care what the profit margin is for those guys. Forcing yourself to cost more than the competition doesn't seem like good business sense to me. The only slightly 'noble' motivation I cn think of is to give B&M stores a more competitive position by not allowing e-stores to undercut them so badly with their lack of overhead.

Well, undercutting of prices devalues their product. What good is MSRP if you can buy something for half that price anywhere? It is only worth half then.

yeah, but 9 times out of 10, price is below MSRP, even in store. Same with cars and guns, I personally don't even pay attention to MSRP for such things. I don't think BM is going to change pricing schemes on their own.

It still wouldn't be retail, unless they'd change thier MAPP. Even thier direct dealers are allowed to advertise a product at a certain price point, just now below it. It also doesn't mean that they aren't sold below that price, just that they can't be advertised below that price.
Ever been to the Best Buy sites (or any like it) where they say "cannot show price. To see price, add to cart". Same type of deal.
