I am thinking of moving there, but wanted to get an idea of how it is up there. I have read a lot of good things about it, but wanted to get some info from ppl with first-hand experience. Also, what are the knife laws like up there?

thx

I'm from Eugene, about 100 miles South of Portland and have a son and daughter living there. If at all possible, secure a job before relocating! Knife laws are liberal as are concealed carry laws for handguns. Oregon is a "shall issue" state. Switchblades are legal to own, but van not be carried concealed. No one is quite sure what that means. More experts are available on the Oregon Concealed Carry Forum.http://www.oregonconcealedcarry.com/index.php?

The Oregon Constitution assures even broader rights to keep and bear than the US Constitution. And the Oregon Supreme Court has taken a very permissive reading of it. The result is that most everything is legal to own. Switchblades can be carried non-concealed, but the definition of non-concealed is highly premissive.

However, if you are also into property rights, you will not like Oregon. This state is the home of Urban Planning and Land Use Control in the United State.

Depending on where you want to live, real estate prices are very high. A thousand square foot apartment in Downtown Portland will run you at least $350,000. Unemployment is, as Mr. Cliph noted, is still pretty high. Depending on what you want, many jobs are very tight.

Oh, and it's a myth that it rains a lot in the Portland area. It only rains once per year; of course it starts in September and doesn't end until June... but it's just one storm per year.

I've lived in oregon my whole life and in Portland for a year or so after college.

It's a great city but I had to move south 20 miles or so when I wanted to buy a house since it was too expensive there unless I wanted to buy a 1000 sqft house with two bedrooms and one bath (which i didn't)

I may be moving to Oregon soon, I have been looking in Bonanza and Klamath Falls. I have horses so I need a little land, prices are getting up there so I am spending a lot of time looking.
