Anyone Getting the GiantMouse ACE Jutland?

Hey. This one caught my eye but I'm on the fence. It looks like they used titanium instead of brass for the back spacer. I love the wire clip. The blade shape looks good. It's also Elmax. Aside from being a nice break from the ubiquitous M390/20CV and S35VN in current production knives; Elmax has a nice balance of properties. (Larrin gives Elmax and S45VN the same ratings across categories.)

One concern I have is that the heel of the blade on my GiantMouse Sonoma sat uncomfortably close to the scale edges when the knife was closed. Sliding a pinky along the rear scale gap could lead to a bite. Yeah, I know some knives are like that, including examples from Shirogorov. I feel like a closed knife should have no easily touchable sections of tip or blade. I do sometimes reach around a clipped pocket knife and there are other occasions for fumbling in life. Anyway, it looks like it might be close from the pictures.

I'm wary of both the hassle of returning to some dealers and abusing the more generous return policies of others. So if anyone gets one of these, I'd love to get confirmation on this. I'd also like to hear about the detent strength and any other thoughts you might have.

Got an orange one, dyed it, came out in a cool burnt brown color. Overall, good piece. Reminds me, in handling, of a mini-AFCK. Like the basic construction and liner lock. Bearings are a bit of a minus for me, but that's personal, and doesnt effect the knife in any way.

When the knife is closed, how easy or hard is it to touch the heel of the blade along the back of the scales?

Also, how is the detent strength on a scale from super snappy to wet noodle?

My GM Nimbus is the same way. I basically relegated it to living in a utility box. Probably the main issue I have with it that keeps me from using it as an EDC.

I love the design. So I bought one instantly.

My impressions so far:
- great ergonomics
- design is great, looks really good
- fit and finish is rather mediocre
- the grind is off
- pivot got loose very fast after initial break-in flipping
- the blade was off-centered, I had to put a lot of work into the pivot and it is still slightly off-centered
- lock-up is very early, but solid
- the detent is on the weaker side
- you can shake out the blade easily
- the flipper can hurt your finger after excessive flipping
- no danger from the blade in closed position (I cut myself with the Sonoma as well)

I really like the design, the clip point and green micarta is beautiful, and it's the right size for me. However, it is a GiantMouse, which means absolutely mediocre QC, which is giving me pause.

The review above my post sounds about right for a GM.

GM is normally very transparent which OEM they are using. When I read that the Jutland is made in Maniago, Italy (no manufacturer, bad sign), I was worried and sadly, my gut feeling was right.

My Sonoma is manufactured by Reate. The fit and finish is perfect, what I am used to by Reate. If GM had choosen Reate for the Jutland, it could be one of my favourite folders ever because the design is so great.

So basically a great knife built by a manufacturer that isn't really up to its price point by today's standards

I ordered one directly from GM and it’s great. Detent seems perfectly tuned on mine. I cannot shake the blade out no matter how hard I try, but even a light touch on the flipper tap sends the blade rocketing out. Mine locks up solidly.

I also like the “Spydie hole” on this one for a more controlled opening method. Flipper tabs are not my fav and I love the option to open the blade this way as well.

I’ve got an ace grand. This knife reminds of the grand but with a spear point blade. I bought mine direct from gm. My grand was built in Italy as well. I’ve had zero problems with it, perfectly centered and the Elmax is tough.

Are they the company that makes the MKM Flame? I recently tried the Knife Center Exclusive in olive wood. A good amount of the blade was right up to the scale edge when closed. The detent was in "wet noodle" territory. The centering was a train wreck too. I normally tinker but that one was an instant return.

The heel portion is about 1/8" from the back of the knife. There's no way for any portion of the hand to contact it. Detent is strong, probably one of the stronger detent actions i've encountered. And there's no up-down play when closed.

It's pretty smashing for sure, people have compared it to the recent Benchmade Taggedout due to the bowie style blade, while the Taggedout has a much thinner edge, it is also a much wider blade, for my use I prefer this one a bit more, the edge could stand to be a little thinner, it is a folder after all, but it cuts great !
