Anyone go camping this 4th?

I try to stay away from camping on the 4th as everyone else goes...…

Went the week before. Got a spot right on the north shore of lake Michigan there in the UP. Hung out with the wife, and had a few drinks. Swatted far too many bugs. The lake is the highest it's been in my memory, so the beach went away...… You used to be able to walk out to the rocks in the water without getting wet.

Fell in love all over again with my phenolic handled Buck 118. Great little kitchen knife that you can safely stow away.

Agreed, there were 16 spots and only 4 had campers. Very quiet and had a great quiet time. There used to be a pump to provide water but last year it stopped working. I think that keeps a lot of the West side of the state out. This campsite is almost at the roads end. Fishing isn't allowed this far up the Twisp river. M8d summer the creek ends up underground unless it rains then slowly rises back and then dissapears again. The trout that live here have a hard enough time they stopped fishing years ago. Lower parts of the river are still open. We were sitting at our campsite and a new Black suburban rolls up to the site next to us. Family of four jump out and the oldest boy, probably 12 or so grabs a fishing rod and runs down to the river. My wife told the mom that a first ranger was just there and since the fishing was closed didn't want to see them get ticketed. The lady said they have fished here before but would let the Dad know. License plate said Seattle on the frame. stelprdb5279698_m.jpg

Earlier a Tacoma pick up was camping next to this old picnic area which says Day use only. They didn't pay and there were 12 spots open but this particular guy ignored the sign and didn't pay, his license plate said Renton WA on it.
There is the east side and west side to the Cascade Mtns. East side call the West side 206rs, seattlites or coasties. I don't have a problem with anyone but the 206rs come over in hordes on the weekends. These two examples are a small sample of a few who take then take some more then head home, I camp up there to avoid the horde but some find their way. This campground never closes, hunters use the area in the off season. Beautiful place for sure. My grandparents took my brother and me up here quite a bit.

Haha fat camp. :) Here in FLA we camp from Thanksgiving til March. I ended up working a double on Independence Day.

Pretty looking spot GPyro GPyro

too hot and wet and too many mosquitos this time a year where I am. used to when I was younger, but too hot for a proper fire and without a fire too many mosquitos. be hiding in a tent sweating and usually those mosquitos still get in. no fun.

looks like you and GPyro GPyro had nicer weather and places. even with the big city folks trampling all over.....:)

nice bucks to bring. not sure what I'd bring buck wise. I usually do all i can to prep ahead of time as I get lazy outdoors in the heat. just want to sit in the shade and relax with a cold drink in my hand......
