Anyone going to blade show?

Apparently Cold Steel is not. The company is not listed as a table/booth holder this year in Blade's exhibitor list. That seems like a very strange choice for GSM. What better venue could you have for a new lock and several new models?

Oddly enough, SOG Knives will have a booth. Maybe GSM only has one "knife crew" and can't staff two booths at one show....

Demko had a new fixie and a new folder for display. Their booth had a long ass line, and sold out, mostly, by Friday afternoon. CS's both was haphazardly set up, and seemed..messy. Had quite a few models on a magnetic board and were also selling seconds. Didnt see the new folder or anything with their new locking mechanism.

They had some of the new stuff there - one guy stopped by our booth after purchasing one of the new 3.5 Engage in S35vn and gave me opportunity to handle it.

I was very pleasantly surprised - I suspected it would feel awkward to actuate the lock at the mid position - however it was comfortable and worked great for me. The knife overall felt really nice in hand, I was concerned about the ergos in the handle shaping but it fit my hand very nicely. I will likely be picking one up once widely available.

I never actually stopped in, but I did get a pic of the combined Cold Steel/SOG booth.

Apparently, GSM doesn't doesn't feel the need to distinguish between the brands. I'm not trying to be overly critical, as I know GSM is still new to the knife business. But pairing two companies that have competed for a lot of the same market for decades just because you now own them both strikes me as shortsighted. I wonder if they will remain separate brands for long?

On another note, the way things are trending I don't expect any improvement in the general knife knowledge of the GSM employees running either company. I think I could answer just about any question asked by a person walking up to the Cold Steel display. I could probably answer about half of the questions asked by someone walking up to the SOG display. Except for JimiSlash, I suspect the GSM personnel running the combined booth could discuss any of the companies' knives for a maximum of about thirty seconds.

And if anyone asked about Cold Steel or SOG company history, or even about knives not currently in the catalog, I think he'd get nothing but blank stares.

Did anyone else see the Mayhem in the knife center video (I think)? I think that lock could make it a Espada killer.
