That they might be willing to part with for a friend of mine going to Iraq? Unfortunately I don't have the money right now to buy him an HI khuk :(
If anyone has one lying around that may need to see some service time I'm certain he will be glad to put it to use, if not I, and he will fully understand.

Good on ya, Sarge:)
Say, do any of our former or current men at arms know of some fine young patriots in need of some khuks before they head over to the sandbox? ...pre-cleared with their CO, of course. Maybe even a good small knife like the JKM or Kumar Karda? I'm sure that there are a few of us that can part with a knife or two to help out our country. I was sad that I missed the last khuk drive. Actually, I didn't miss it. I only had one khuk then;) Now I have...well more than 1 anyway.

Good one Sarge. Do the CO's often fight the soldier bringing his own knife? What size do you suggest in that type of situation Sarge?

Glad your sorted out helping your buddy. Good bunch of guys here, I can tell already. Here is what I am sending a friend of mine that is being deployed.

Only one of course...

Those things are awesome looking. Are our guys allowed to use these implements in battle? How often do they face hand to hand combat? Its hard to guage how the fighting is done, because every source is questionable. (media I mean). Seriously cantina material thread drift here I guess. Sorry.

Hi Andy,

All depends on where they are and what they are doing. There is a great deal of close quarter battle going on with all the raids etc. Besides that it sure would make me feel warm and fuzzy having one of these at my side if all else failed.

Guys, as Jake aptly pointed out, smaller, more practical knives, like JKM's, Kumar Kardas, and KPH/Sarge knives, make useful gifts for our deploying troops. As far as khukuris go, best to keep it reasonable, like 15" Siru or AK, and BAS's. Marines, Special Forces, and crazy arse Air Force tactical types might get away with something bigger, but several of my regular Army friends have caught serious flack from their chain of command over the big khuks I gave 'em. Case in point, young Army sergeant, combat engineer, perfect candidate for the 18" AK I gave him. Nope, had to send his khukuri home, wasn't allowed to have it, didn't present the right "image" whatever the he&& that meant. Repeat that story, with a few twists and turns, several times over, and you'll see why I wanted to caution y'all to check your enthusiasm and go with practical.

Hey Sarge, I heard bout the 12 inchers you gave to the boys heading to the sand-box. :) A noble thing to do.

I am currently sharpenning my 12" chit. It's coming along sharp....still at 220 grit but i'm starting to scare myself already. :)

Sarge, I must say I am bewildered by hearing that a khuk doesn't present the right "image" in a war zone. Does it look too lethal? Hmmm. They doing their best not to let the locals see lads carrying firearms too?

Maybe they're sensitive to having it look like US troops are equipped and willing to behead their opponents. Given the insurgents' history with hostages, that is ...

Noble? Our military, unlike many others, is an all volunteer force. America's sons and daughters are over there putting their lives on the line for our freedom, and nobody made them do it. Politics and politicians aggravate the living hell out of me, but the men and women over there looking death in the eye on a daily basis ain't politicians. They do what they do, because in their hearts they believe they're helping to make the world a better, safer, place. That's what I call noble.

Andy the Spiked 'Hawks such as these are particularly useful for many things. A lot of the common dwellings/outbuildings are made of adobe like substance from what I understand and the Spiked 'Hawks are very useful in penetrating a dirt wall or a solid door.
Sarge can correct me if I'm wrong.

The helluvit is that an HI Khukuri would have similar uses because of their method of being hardened. Having a softer point the knife isn't gonna be hurt that much digging through a sun baked brick wall.
Also a place for the heavier built HI Khukuris just because a combat situation is not always martial art oriented. Opening ammo cans or boxes is combat use.:D

Bill, do you have the website for those? Thanks.

Yeah, let us know Bill! Those look cool. Right now all I have is a pair of Lagana Vietnam tactical hawks, but those are much more formidable looking. It's a shame our guys over there can't carry whatever the hell they want without having to get permission as to how it looks to anyone else.

Thanks,

Norm
