Anyone had a Bone Marrow Transplant?

Going into the hospital next month for a bone marrow transplant and I'm not 100% sure what to expect. My care team did a great job explaining the procedure to me, but they also straight out told me to file for disability now and that having the procedure done would actually fast track my application to the head of the line. Now, I've been through chemo twice before and it sure as hell wasn't fun, but it also wasn't disabling and filing at those times never crossed my mind. I know the stuff they're hitting me with this time is harsher, but the advice to file before I even see how I feel through it makes me think it may kick my butt a little harder than I'm thinking. Just looking for any advice or tips if any of y'all have gone through this.
 
Haven't experienced it. Have been on the donor list most of my life (too old now) though. Just wanted to say good luck and we'll think positive thoughts for you. Mike

Thanks, man, it's appreciated. As I understand it I'm damn lucky because I can be my own donor, which helps things a lot.
 
My son had AML in 1998. He had chemo and radiation treatments before the transplant. I remember that he was pretty sick from the treatments, but he got over it and is doing well. That was 17 years ago. The treatment may have improved.

Hi there, I did not have the surgical transplant. I did however do the non surgical donation through the be the match foundation. I hope it goes well for you. I had a quite pleasant experience.
