I was just on Benchmade's wed-site and came across this knife. It looks cool and affordable. I assume because it's made over seas, which does not bother me.

I was just curious if anyone had handled one or had any info about release date. As the knife appears to have come completely out of the blue.

I am intrigued. $100 MSRP and nice length.:)

I like how they say "Import" rather than a specific country. Maybe it's the new trend?

The 9CR13MoV Chinese alphabet steel is a bit of a giveaway though, and I'd be wary of it for that alone. Though I believe this would be the first flipper style blade from Benchmade, at least as far as I can recall.

If the MSRP is $110 I assume prices from dealers might hover around $75-$85, which doesn't sound that bad for a titanium handle knife in that length. I'd still wait to see how it flips before buying one though;).

wow, I'm surprised I haven't seen this before. Good find! Not really my taste but it looks like it might do ok in their HD lineup

I am a bit disappointed that all of our favorite knifemakers are starting to dilute their lines and therefore - quality with "imports". USA steel and workmanship is still number 1, Japan is a close second, but Taiwan and then China - quite a large leap down the stairs, if ya know what I mean. I have quite a few Japanese Spydies - they are awesome in every way, I have a few Taiwanese Spydies (Sage Series) and Gerbers - not as good, and Chinese knives - I simply don't waste my money!!!

Nope. Don't have a clue. You say you have a few Taiwanese knives and they're not as good?

Seems to me like you haven't been around much. Try some of the Spyderco knives made there like the Gayle Bradley , for instance, and try saying that again with a straight face. As far as the actual Chinese knives the companies having them made there decide what quality they want. They can get anything they want at pretty much any quality. They just choose to get the cheap stuff mainly.

Nothing wrong with wanting to buy american if that's your thing but don't make false claims to justify it.

I missed this thread..... This will be a must buy for me , and I'll bet a carnitas super-burrito from Guadalajara that it will be in better shape than my far more expensive Lfti ( which I've come to love )

Ti frame-lock , flipper , cool blade shape , decent steel that's a few spots better than Aus8 ?? It will be in my pocket soon , I dont care if it's made on the moon by martians. ;)

p.s. in re-reading the spccs , that is a lot of knife for the money ! I wont quite take my hat off to Benchmade until I own one and fiddle with it but I look very forward to it !

I own a SRM #704 that can hold its own with any Chinese made Kershaw or Spyderco easily. Solid, good lockup, centered, came sharp, good clip retention, and about $15. Can't speak for other Chinese brands but I'm impressed by SRM knives.

I love the looks of it, especially for the price. I am a sucker for flipper framelocks, though

I just ordered one. I should have it in a few days. It's not my normal kind of buy, but I've been having fun with a CRKT M-16. I'd never had a flipper before and I was bored and between knives so I bought one to keep myself occupied (m-16). I loved the action. When I saw the previews of the Ti-Fender I thought to myself... I like the cheapo CRKT...I'll give it a try.
It's Harley Davidson branded which bothers me more than the Chinese steel. (I've used it and it's fine...strops up to shaving sharpness.)
A couple of days and I'll let you know. Oh ya...I got a first production.

Quality control is the issue. I have designer Spydercos that were made in Taiwan (gayle Bradley for one) and the fit and finnish are better than some of my USA and Japanese made spydercos. Very fine knives are being made abroad using imported steels under very high supervision.

I'd be interested in a first impression as well...

I like when manufacturers "step up" the chinese made stuff, and let us see the "high end" of the "low cost" spectrum.

looks good! been thinking about this one myself, over seas doesn't bother me as I've found some overseas made to be better than usa made, and some usa made to be better than overseas made.
