Anyone handled the AlMar SERE Operator yet?

I am looking for a production medium sized "tactical type" fixed blade. Rightnow, I am thinking of the BM Nimravus and the AlMar new fixed blade Operator. I like the looks of the Al Mar better (good guard and satin finish!), and I started collecting AL Mar knives when I first seriously got into knives, so it would be nice to go back to my 'first love'if the fit and finish is still there. I am curious about the following aspects of the Operator:
- Does it have a relatively thin edge? Contrary to BM's thick edges.
- What is the sheath like, does it allow for inverted carry? I don't like that aspect in the Nimravus.
- Does the handle appear commfortable?
- In general, what is the quality of Al Mar knives nowadays?

Thanx in advance.

I also like the looks of the SERE operator. I havent handled one, but if the quality is anything like the SERE 2000 I will be impressed. Does anyone have any more info on these?

The sheath is supposed to be made by blade-tech. Hopefully with the tech-lock that allows for a variety of postions.

Dennis,

Do you have any specs on the Operator? OAL and blade length, especially?

Any projected availability date or price?

I believe the blade is 5" of ATS-34. I would like to have seen VG-10 like the sere 2000 but ATS-34 is an excellent steel. I have no idea on price or avialability. I will definately get one though.

How are you liking the SERE 2000 Jim?

Just got an email from James Mattis saying that the operator is not available yet and a price hasn't been announced. Hopefully these will be available soon an reasonably priced.

I spoke with gary at Al Mar today. He advised that the operator will not be ready until late fall or early winter.

He also said that they haven't decided on a price yet. The good news is that they are leaning towards a kydex multicarry sheath. He also promised that the Operator would be of the same quality as the SERE 2000. I will immediately write my letter to Santa Clause!
