Anyone has a fixed Griptilian?

The Benchmade Griptilian folders often get mentioned in threads on recommendations for folders. I have the mini version and indeed it is light and very suitable for everyday carry. In contrast with the folder version the fixed Griptilian seems to receive much less coverage. I wonder how would the fixed version feel? Does anyone have experience?

I sorta want one

I used to sell them. They are pretty nice, and I like the sheath.. but the handles could be thicker. They're kind of on the thin side, unlike the beefy feeling handle you get with the folders

Here's mine modded to remove thumb ramp and reduce jimping to ultimately reduce hotspots. The handles are slim, but it has good stainless steel, a sure grip, slim guard, and a versatile sheath (vertical belt, horizontal belt, molle to pack). At 4 ounces, it is now my lightest FB backpacking blade, coupled with a SAK or Skeletool, makes for great utility for the weight:

Here it is riding side-saddle on my versapack:

The folder is so very comfortable in the hand that it comes as a shock when you pick up the fixed version and feel how uncomfortable it is. There's just something about the fitting of the scales to the tang that makes it feel wrong somehow. If I were to buy one I would need to put the grinder to it and clean up the edges of the handle.

The Rant is the better value from Benchmade, or the Spyderco Moran is a similar knife with a similar price that might be better.

It IS pretty weird how they over-extended the tang like they did. Seems kind of contrary to the whole idea behind the Griptilian line.

That said, it's more comfortable than it looks, and it's amazingly light for its' size.

The sheath is a little cheap, in that the plastic liner in mine is so thin it actually cracked during shipping, since the seller used a padded envelope and the box was all crushed up when it got here. Then again, I don't know what it went through en route.

Brians: The fixed Grip also fits pretty securely in the side compartment on that Maxpedition pack, the one right above the zippered MALICE pouch.

I like my folders so much I ordered one of the fixed blades, and was disappointed. Nothing really wrong with the knife, it just doesn't feel as good in my hand as I expected. It's a little light for my taste. Still, it seems like a decent knife, so I put it in one of my emergency bags I keep in the car.

I picked up the rant and Fixed Grip. I sent the Fixed grip back and stuck with the Rant. Felt much better in the hand and it was half the price which was a bonus. If BM made the Rant in 154 it would be the perfect fixed knife for me but I can live with the 440.

Yeah, the Rant looks awesome (I want one wicked bad), but the sheath looks pretty cheap...if the Rant could fit in the Fixed Grip's sheath, it would be a wonderful world!

I dont think the New rant's sheath would be any different than the old rant's sheath. I have the old rant bowie and it came with a very nice leather sheath. Looks like the new rant has one that's just as nice if not nicer.
