I intend to use it as a light to medium duty camp knife, is this OK? The steel is '4116 Krupp Stainless', is it any good? Thanks!

No experience with the specific knife, but I have plenty of experience with the steel as one of my EDC knives is a Pocket Bushman. Great corrosion resistance, nice impact resistance, and moderate edge retention with high ease of sharpening. It doesn't HOLD an edge as well as some spendier steels, but it'll TAKE a very fine edge indeed and with very little effort.

Hi,

Yup, I have a Cold Steel "lite" knife in Krupp stainless; I've got the Pendleton model. It cost $15. :) Is it any good? Sure! It's great, actually, and surprisingly well-made and solid in the hand. You will be fine whittling, skinning, dressing, cleaning, and other cutting camping tasks.

I would not suggest doing anything with it that would constitute "abuse" (or "normal knife treatment" here on BF), such as--but not limited to--batonning wood (hell, no), prying, chopping. I would keep your sharpening stuff close at hand, too. It comes razor sharp, but it will not hold an edge very well. It is a great value for the money that will serve you well for most cutting tasks in the field.

Does it compare to a custom-made, differentially heat-treated, full-tang, camp knife made of something like 52100? Not a snowball's chance in hell. But it's a great value for the money. I'd say go ahead and pull the trigger. You'll be surprised how nice a knife it is for such a low price.

Thanks brothers, it looks the steel is decent enough for my purpose. At this price I am not asking stellar performance from the knife, and I won't be batoning with it either. Thanks also for the advice to keep sharpening stuff at hand.

I've never really had to field sharpen mine, but expect the edge to hold up similarly to that of a swiss army knife. :)

Krupp .4116 is good. In my experience the best stainless steel in that price range. It sharpens up easily and my pocked bushman and kudu stay that way somewhat longer than my SAKs.

If you get the lite outdoorsman you'll get your moneys worth.

The Kudu has become my wife's favorite everyday kitchen knife. She uses it to slice and dice just about each meal, as well as tasks around the house. It has a place of "honor?" in the strainer. It sharpens up very easy to me.
