The knife finally arrived yesterday. This knife had been worked hard by its previous owner and not shown much attention. The main blade was missing about 1-2 mm of its tip, all the blades needed sharpening, the spey blade was REALLY dull(looked like it had been used as a scraper/screwdriver), and the whole knife needed cleaning. First thing I did was to take a file and put a point back on the main blade, this only took a few strokes and didn't change the profile to much. Then came the sharpening. The main and sheepsfoot weren't to bad, they both looked to have been badly sharpened on a coarse stone at sometime, but both blades had a bevel and something that resembled a edge. 30 minutes on each blade with 2 different grit diamond stones put a edge back on them. For the spey I had to get out the coarse stone and rebevel the blade to where I could put it back on the finer stones. After getting a good edge on all 3 blades, I finished them on a loaded strop and all shave nicely now. I then put some Rem-oil on the pivots and worked that in and cleaned some of the grit and gunk out of them. This put some snap back into the blades. The 858 in a definate handful of stockman, the handle is a big as many fixed blades, and should prove to be a serious worker. I'm glad I was able to bring this old knife back to order. Its in my pocket now and I'm just looking for a excuse to cut stuff, thats what OT's were made for.
