I'm looking to get an Eskabar and I'm trying to decide between the the D2 or 1095. I'm leaning toward the D2 version but I can't decide because I want a decent patina to develop on it as I think they look great. If any of you guys have the D2 version with a patina please post up some pictures and your opinion on the D2 vs 1095. Thanks

i soaked mine in fat and the fresh blood of a few steaks for many days and nights.

nothing.

i also have a BK13 that sat in water and chlorine - the cheap chinese one even - and it's got some "rust", pictures later, but experience shows that about 10 seconds with a scotch brite pad, and that stuff is gone

bascially, imho, you can't patina stainless or near stainless easily

got some hardcore acids? maybe, but then you are risking your warranty :D

I've had my 24 for a while now and I can't get a patina to develop.

I soaked mine in vinegar over a long weekend, and have used it extensively on acidic foods.
It barely darkened at all.

Thanks for the input guys. It seems like D2 is more stain resistant than I had thought.

Ahaha I remember thinking about this. D2 is not actually that corrosion resistant, but I think the stonewashed finnish prevents it from showing a patina like a regular carbon steel blade. I would try sanding the blade a bit to rough it up a bit/take off the coating. There are videos of people adding patina to the 1095 ones easily of course

Mine gets pocket carried and has some stain streaks on the blade near the handle and the front and back of the handle are darker from being exposed to sweat almost constantly. I got it last summer and it's faint, so I think it can be done but it'll probably take a while.

I posted pictures maybe a month or two ago, I'll try to link them when I get home from work this evening.

Sanding it might would work but I would hate to take off the stonewash finish. Stonewash is my favorite finish. I'd like to see those pictures when you get a chance. Does anybody else have any input?
