Hey
I was just wondering if any Swamprat guys have some experience with the Bark River Bravo 1. It seems like alot of people like it. I have a HRLM coming and I think the bravo 1 would be good for my fiance. Just wondering how the two compare since they seem the same size.

I am guessing the HRLM would be a little more durable then the Bravo 1.

Thanks

Why yes, I have one. Labelled 'prototype,' but that really means nothing.:)

I think the Bravo is very durable. I wouldn't hesitate to gift one.

But yes, I doubt it could take the beating an HRLM could.

I have a the bravo-1 as well, I don't have the HRLM but I do have a RMD, One thing I like about the Bravo-1 over the RMD is that it doesn't have a choil and the blade is uncoated, the handle is very comfortable, a couple options you have with the Bravo-1 to think about before ordering is weather to get a matte finish (a little more grip in the micarta) and weather you want the thumb ramp or not. Also I'd say the Bravo-1 is probably at least as tough as the HRLM if not more so since the Bravo-1 is around .22 inches thick and the HRLM is 3/16 if I'm not mistaken. The Bravo-1 is thicker than my RMD.

I have both x two. Both are about as tough as anyone would want or need. I like both but I do prefer satin finishes and no choils.

I cannot imagine any situation where the Bravo 1 would fail where I would still be alive and unhurt. I think it is likely a better question as to whose steel/heat treat and which company and which design you like better. I do not own any bark river knives but I understand they have a very nice warranty also.

Do you like apple pie or chocolate cake for dessert?

It's that type of choice. It's not "better" in the sense of a RMD is better than a CRKT M16 folder. It's a preference thing.

The Bravo-1 is smaller than I imagined it to be. Classy piece. Designed for field use. Convexed already. I think I like the Swamp Rat handle better, tho.

The sheath is really nice. Reminiscent of a good Dozier sheath, but a bit more stout retention on the draw. (My fav. kydex sheath is a Dozier on a Dozier knife - wow. Holds like nobody's business and releases with a touch.)

It seems like the Bravo 1 would be a good choice for a mid size EDC blade and survival knife. Like they say, what good is a knife if you don't have it on you when something happens and you need it.

The RMD is another great blade from what I hear. The RMD would seem the choice for a general camp knife, were you have a planned trip or something. I am sure it can be done, but it may be a little on the large size for a EDC blade.

From what I have read it seems that A2 and Sr-101 are similar in their performance. I hear both can take a scary sharp edge and hold it. A2 having the advantage of more corrosion resistance and Sr-101 edge being able to take a little more abuse. For the vast majority of people they will not see any perceived difference in the two when working with them. Then there are always going to be those people that push their tools to the limit.

So are these correct assumptions? Thats what I get when doing some reading and stuff.

Thanks

I think you should buy both. The knives are of high quality and the handles are very usefull design. I think you can't go wrong with the Bravo-1 or the RMD. Good luck.
