I have the 882SBTG and am considering picking up an 881/880.

I was curious how others who have/had them like them?

Does anyone have any pics comparing them to a 110 or an 889/882 sized Buck strider?

I read online the dimensions of the 880 and 881, but its hard to "grasp" their actual size without comparing them to familiar models.
Also do you prefer the tanto blade or the spear point?
This thread may be redundant, but the search feature isn't working for me currently! Thanks in advance I really appreciate it!!!!!

Jimmy Crack Corn...
Here ya go.
In order: 881 Tanto, 881 Spear, 889, 882 w/ a 889 blade, and a 110 for scale.

I don't really use the 880 or 881 much, if at all. Maybe if I didn't have that 882/9. I like that combo. I didn't care for the 882 blade with the stippled finish and partial serrations even with the ATS-34 steel. But I much prefer the G-10 scales of the 882, so I put a 889 blade on it.

That knife (882/9) and the 110 pictured are my EDCs (the two knives at the bottom of the set). I carry both prerry much every day.

The little BS' (881) are rock solid...no problems with either. Just find that I prefer the larger blade of the SBMF.

Hope the pics help. The quality of the pics aren't the best...lost the sun so I had to use flash.

Thanks Goose! I appreciate it!
I think the 882/889 is the perfect size, the 881's are a bit smaller!
I LOVE the G-10 handles! Thats why I started to contemplate an 880/881!
Pics are great Goose! One funny thing though.... When I click on the middle pic,
I get a 110 N/S Damascus with KOA flamewood. Maybe its a sign from above ;)

You are welcom Jim. Always a pleasure to show off pics of my grandkids, I mean, knives ;)

I fixed that link BTW. Fat fingered it.

Soooo.... it wasn't a sign then???? :D

WOW are the blades thick on those 2 when viewed from the lock side!
I think I definately need one of each now ;) Gotta try 'em out!

Thanks for the pics of the grand kids! They look great.

...The 880/881 seem to be the same size? I thought the 881 was the *mini* version?

YOU are CORRECT. I messed up. Both of those are 881 knives. Wish the knives were stamped with model numbers.
I will edit my original post and now have another knife to search for ;)

Yep, the blades are stout little suckahs...like mini-crow bars :)

Thats O.K. ;)

My 882's don't have a model # either. They still look nice. I will have to try them out!
How about the tanto/ spear point blade preference?

Hey Jim... here are some pics of my 881:

The 881 is really about the size of a 112 but is much lighter because of the titanium & G10 construction. It's a very well made, solid knife. I EDC my 881 a lot. My only gripe is that the blade is so thick it doesn't slice or peel very well.

I prefer the spear point over the tanto both in appearance and general function.

Thank you for your input Messy!

The 881 is pretty hard to find, (harder than the 880) so I may go with the first blade style I can get my paws on! I dont really know which I would prefer at this point... (sorry for the pun) :D

I used to have two 881T's and they were both great. One BG42 and one ATS34. Sold one and gave the other to a friend, but they were both great knives. Incredibly thick blades and tank-like lockup. When I had these I kept reading threads about people worrying about the liner lock on their Strider-Buck knives. I kept thinking, they must not have a 880/881, because there is no way anyone would question this thing! (I was right, all the threads were about 882/889 series, although even those seem to be mostly fine).

Goose, that red lanyard looks really nice on your 881. I bet it was a heck of a good guy that tied that on there... ;)

I have a 880SP, 881SP, & a 881T. While I like tantos, I think the spear-point on these are better users. While both blades are very thick, the tanto doesn't have much of a grind on the front edge.

They're both short, stout knives. Interestingly enough, the 881's have good blade length to handle ratio (2 7/8" to 4"), but the 880's are monsters, with not so great blade to handle ratio (3 7/8" to 5 3/8").

The 881SP does make a good "anywhere" knife, with its "just under" 3" blade.

As for which one to get...just get both. :D

CL: I think you have the model numbers switched. The 880 is the bigger knife. The 881 has a 4" handle and 3" (2 7/8") blade.
