Any comments on it from owners?

Am I even posting this in the right place? Is it even considered a "traditional" knife?

The Cold steel Kudu falls within the realm of traditional, It is a modern rendition of a traditional pattern.

I've wondered about this as well, mostly to give away or as a lender. They can be had extremely cheaply. The steel is their 4116 Krupp I believe, which isn't absolute junk. I mostly wondered about the lock.

I have one, it was a gift from a buddy and it's a lightweight yet solid little knife. I used as a farm work knife for several years and it preformed well...no failures, kept an edge and had a very solid lockup.

I don't use it as much anymore because closing it is too hard on my RA.

I have one of these. It's an Okapi knife pattern. The cold steel variant sharpens up easily and locks up very securely. It can be a bit intimidating to close until you're used to the ring lock. It does have a ratchet system that provides a series of stops which adds to the peace of mind when closing. With practice they can supposedly be opened and closed one handed but, I don't see it happening in my hands. Mine has spent most of it's life in the kitchen and has served well there. Edge holding has been adequate against food on wood and thin plastic cutting boards. I can't comment on how it does against abrasive materials. For the price, it's worth checking out if you're curious. If for nothing else than to experience a new lock and a time tested pattern from another part of the world. South Africa if I'm not mistaken.

Have one on my desk at all times. Opens mail, packages and other odds and ends. Never sharpened it only stropped it. Few years now and still hair shaving sharp. Edge lasts a while but strops back to life in seconds.

Except for processing large pieces of wood and heavy prying, there isn't much this knife can't do. If your username resembles what you'll do with it, it will serve nicely.

Everyone's comments pretty much have it covered. I really like mine, it lives in my tackle box. It's a very high value knife, so inexpensive yet very useful. If you like different lock types it is a must have.

Strong, sharp, clean and cheap. I don't know where you'd find more knife for the money. I think it's superior to the Okapi it's modelled after.
Funny story, really- the okapi looks like a traditional southern European peasant knife, but it was first produced in Solingen in the 20s(?), and called the Okapi because it was as new a knife as the just-discovered okapi was a new antelope (or whatever an okapi is). If I recall correctly.

I figure I may as well have the addresses that relate to what I like to do.

Supposedly the one I ordered will arrive in the post tomorrow. :) With a little luck, I will make it home and actually SEE it sometime this year. (I drive truck, LTL loads out of Florida are rare, so I don't get home much.)

The okapi is a beautiful animal, related to the giraffe.

The giraffe's only relative, I just read. I have no quarrel with the animal, I just don't get the logic as a name for the knife. Anyway, my kudu just turned up in a moving box and I'm glad to have it back.

Iv'e given away about a dozen of them to friends and family, only complaint was that some had difficulty closing the knife. I have used my for years in very abusive tasks, the knife is very strong, and steel isn't too bad, easy enough to sharpen.

I have both a Kudu, and an Eland, and they both have extremely solid lockups, the ratchets on the Eland a a tad bit shallower, so it's not as much work to close the blade, as my kudu's can be a tad stiff at times. But aside from that, the Kudu is an extremely good work knife, and for the price they sell for, i'm surprised I only have one
