Anyone Have A Good Knife Vise Plan ?

What I have is a regular steel vise, and I just got a bunch of leather, so I am going to make some holders out of leather, so I can tighten it hard, without scratching the blade.

A 'Good Knive Vise' is one that you can fabricate with the skills and materials available to you. I am not trying to be difficult but I can't weld so the process for me may be different from your process.

Go to www.google. com
click on Advanced Search
in the first section titled: Find web pages that have
and the second line titled: this exact wording or phrase
enter in the box to the right: knife vise

I had over 500 hits. The first page will be pretty much the standard knive vise with variations, round vs. square tube, rotate this way and that way, etc. Go to page 3 and click on 'Blade's Guide to Making Knives - Google Books result'. It will open to the page containing an excerpt from Wayne Goddard's $50 Knife Shop book. It shows 3 different types of 'low tech' (i.e., can be made with minimum tools) knife vises.

There are enough links in the first 3 or 4 pages to give you a good working knowledge of the vise. Beyond page 4 it tends to the same information repeated over and over. One of the side benefits to all the links is that it introduces you to other knife forums.

And for what is worth, after I did the 'low tech' version, I purchased a pre-made knife vise and I use both.

Good luck...
