I'm mainly curious because they are made in my city. I've looked at a couple at a store, but want to know anyone's experience with them. You don't hear much about GT Knives on the forums.

BTW, there is a decent article on a GT knife in the new Knives Illustrated.

Jim,

I have a GT Mini automatic, very cool little knife

I have an older manual, in which you press the button to open and close the knife...Overall, they are very very precise instruments, perfect in contruction and detail...The only gripe I have is the pocket clip is goofy, though fits the style of knife perfectly. A Spyderco-style clip would function better, but would also ruin the aesthetics of the piece.

I've got a GT manual also. Very sweet knife, handle, action, lock-up, the whole bit. Even the clip is cool

.

What kind of GT are you mainly looking at?

Sincerely,
Adam

I've spent some time searching the Automatic forum recently, since the knife lobe of my brain has fixated on the idea of getting a GT Mini. Opinion over there seems to be pretty favorable with regard to GT's products.

I`ve got a GT Auto Tanto. It`s a very well constructed knife and I am completely satisfied with it with the exception of the clip. You had better be hanging on when you activate the release on this knife as it has a powerful spring and pops open with authority.Back to the clip,it looks ok and matches the look of the knife but is very rigid and tight to the handle of the knife which makes it hard to extract the knife from your pocket.I have heard of people placing small o-rings under the clip to make the gap between the clip and handle larger.

I have a half serrated police auto (with a kick spring instead of a coil spring) and I like it alot. But I think that I have lost it somewhere in my house

I have a coil spring Police auto, and am very satisfied, except with the too-tight pocket clip.Haven't modified mine yet.The knife is great quality and very sharp.I don't think you'll be disappointed overall.

Got myself a little CA legal mini auto, solid lockup, sharp blade and a good little kick in the spring.

I have a few GT autos.

I think they are the best auto knife for the money. (Under $100)

Thanks for the replies, everyone!
I can surmise now that GT is a top-notch maker of automatics. How about the one-hand manual knife? I believe it's called the GT 1?

I have the "GT 1" manual version, a "Police" model auto and the little GT mini auto. Workmanship and materials are excellent on all of these knives...I agree that the GT autos are some of the best values for "using" blades on the market.

I'm not quite as enthusiastic about the manual GT. My version is one of the older models that has the teardrop-shaped recess as an opening device rather than a thumb stud (It's just like the one described in the Knives Illustrated article). The fit and finish are still impeccable; I've just found it a little awkward to open the knife quickly with one hand (I guess I've been spoiled by thumb studs and holes). Don't get me wrong...I still think that it's a great knife and an excellent value (in any event I think the current manual versions have replaced the recess with ambi thumb studs).

All in all, these are great knives. They're definitely a little funky looking, but they handle very nicely. I think you'd be pleased with any of their products.

I have the old-style manual that locks closed and has the tear-drop in the blade. And I have the little mini-auto.

I echo everyone's statements, the production values are excellent, and these are nice-performing knives. The newer manual knives that don't lock closed and have thumb studs are an attractive option. The only thing I don't like about them is that you're talking about a fairly large chunk o' aluminum for that handle. If you can deal with that, you'll love the knife.
