Anyone have a H&B small camp axe?

Is it too light/small for use as a belt axe that can get down and dirty and take a beating when necessary?
Thanks in advance

Our small camp uses our small handle and most men find that too small to fit comfortably in their hands. I believe the medium camp is the one you want. The head is just a bit larger than the small but the eye is bigger to accommodate our large handle. We cut it down to 17 inches so it is more proportional to the head. It is still lightweight and small enough to be a very comfortable belt ax but tough enough to do anything you give it.

I have a tomahawk on order from H&B right now. From the pics of the ones I have seen they look very well built.

Thanks for the recommendation. It is great to see an American company devoted to its products and to its service, from what I can see online it makes an impression; people love your stuff! Keep up the great work

I have the medium and really like it. Kinda the prefect size for a polled belt axe IMHO. Not that the larger one is bad. Have the Shawnee so based on that the large camp axe must also be the winner. But the med hits a sweet spot in terms of size IMHO. The sheaths are a beast. I think they alone could be used to process wood or take down a walker. Never mind the hawk. LOL! In some ways this is a negative as the sheath for both the hawks and polled axes are heavy. Great for sure but still there are times when less is more. I never worked with leather so don't know how to make a lighter weight muzzle for hiking. I can do Kydex as have the dies etc but in some ways it would be a crime to muzzle such old school work horses with plastic. Order an extra handle as well. They're like 5 bucks and probably wouldn't increase the shipping all that much if yea got a hawk or axe coming along for the ride.

If anyone is listening H&B should make a lighter muzzle type sheath in addition to their tank sheaths. They need a little bit of sharpening but for the price that isn't to be unexpected. I should do a review of them. Seen a few for the Shawnee but hardly any on youtube for the fine medium H&B polled camp axe.

Kinda nice that we can still get hand forged stuff that are real working tools made in the USA for not all that much more than junk china produced cr@p hawks cast from 420 or mystery china stainless. Junk being touted as actual tools by the uninformed. H&B forge is the real deal.

I have the med as well, It is perfect for me, not too heavy and will do all the needs I have in camp. As Woods Walker said above, it is American made, hand forged and will last a long time.

I had the large camp axe but it was bigger than I wanted to carry. I gave it to my nephew and got a medium for myself. It's about, for me, the perfect balance between size, performance, and "carry-ability"

H&B,
I do believe you are selling yourselves short on the small version! I received it today and it fits me comfortably and still has enough weight to it. I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend this product to anyone interested in a nice belt axe. Have yet to do some real work with it but I have no doubts that it will perform great! Thanks for the nice tool + toy!

Great! We are so busy making them we don't ever get to USE them! But I'm glad to hear that you are happy with it. They are all made to be used and abused but I was afraid the smaller handle may be too hard to hold in a man's hand. Apparently I was wrong! That happens occasionally!!

H&B makes the best Hawks I have ever handled.
Our survival school uses the Large Camp Axe/Medium camp/Ship Builders...and have a Shawnee on the way.
I have seen the Medium in action by a student in our CA class too.
