Anyone have a Mare's Leg?

looks like fun , doesnt say overall lenght. Id like one in 44mag to go with my vaqueros.

I swore I read that they were delayed till Feb/Mar 2011... however I did also see alot of gunbroker auctions for "when they become avilable" buy it now. I really want a 357 version just for S&Gs. It would be more of a range toy than anything, kind of like my 7.5" AR pistol. Been debating if I should really buy a Serbu Super Shorty, I want it, but is it worth the money???

Personally I wish I could find (revise that for a half way decent price that is) a takedown 357 ML. I seen a few on gunbroker for @$2000.

Shoot a Shorty first and see if you like it. I shot a Shorty and it was not a lot of fun. Good as a breacher, bad for pretty much everything else.

One small shipment came in & was disbursed, no concrete date on when the next ones will be in country.

I have the Italian Chiappa version in .44-40, on the list for a .45 Colt Rossi.
Barrels are 12 inches, overall on the Chiappa is 23 inches, specs I've seen on the Rossi claim 24 inches.

Both are actually much too long at both ends to be authentic to the TV show, but both makers wanted 7-shooters.

The package is fun, but slow.
My Chiappa is quite accurate, we'll see how the Rossi does when they start showing up in volume.

I have, it was alright, didnt hate it thats for sure. Just dont know if it would be used as much as other items that cost the same. Still looking at picking up a 460, already own 2 454s, so figure it would be a good bet that I could shoot it with the baby cartridges to. I wish I knew somewhere local that had for rent a 45-70 BFR.

Its just one of those.. DAM I want that, kind of like a SR90 flashlight.

Was told today my Rossi will be in tomorrow.
Looks like they're starting to move again.

WOW! please let us know, post some photos, and shoot it and review if you dont mind. Being Im in Iraq right now, I cant really get one even if I want it. But Ill be stateside soon enough.

I will review it, but unfortunately it'll be a ways down the road. :)
It'll be here long enough to be photogrammed for the "Before" image & then it'll be sent off to be rebuilt in a configuration more authentic to the original TV gun.
It'll be shortened at both ends, sights removed, wing safety removed & plugged. Action cleaned up.
After which it'll be written up for publication.
I can give you some general impressions here after I pick it up on Friday, but I won't be shooting it till after the work's done.

Chiappa's reasoning for the 12-inch barrel was to allow for six in the magazine, I'm assuming Rossi was following the same line of thought.
The barrel's at least two inches longer than the TV gun.
The stock nub is also at least an inch too long on both the Chiappa & the Rossi.

Picked up the loaner, not too bad atall.
Polish & bluing well done, good inletting in wood to metal fit, tight action, no play in the lever when closed.
Bead front sight.
Stock nub's an inch longer than the Italian Chiappa version.

Well, I have decided on picking up the 44magnum version. Now I am debating on scoping it, but have not found much online on whether it is an easy process or not. And of course I will need to come up with a holster, one that can convert to backpack carry.

Oh yeah, and I also need to sell my S&W 627 to finance it.

I can't imagine it being very efficient with a scope, unless it's on a rest.
You have to hold with two hands to stay steady on target at all, the angle of the wrist area is much more awkward than a long-barreled revolver, you'll be fighting a lot of weight in an unconventional grip with a severe muzzle-heavy balance.
The gun unloaded weighs over 4 1/2 pounds.

It'd probably also be a nuisance even trying to mount a scope, have to be a long eye relief handgun glass & probably mounted with some sort of Scout rifle rail.

In my .44-40 Chiappa running 200 grain lead at a little over 900 FPS, recoil is very tolerable with one hand or two.
A .44 Mag may be uncomfortable to shoot at higher recoil levels, even with the weight of a heavy "pistol" and a scope on it.
You won't want the burro end anywhere near your face, the thing tends to come straight back & you'll lose teeth or bone structure. :)

Not necessarily trying to talk you out of it, just advising so you can think it through.

Legacy Sports sells a backpack rig for their Chiappa that might fit, but not with glass.
Bob Mernickle might adapt one for a scoped Mare's Leg.
