Just wondering if anyone has a Maxabeam. I see them on TV all the time, but with a $2000+ MSRP, I am sure nary a person would use one to find the fuse box during a blackout. Although, if anyone has one, chances are that they are a member and frequent this forum. For those of you not familiar with the Maxabeam, check out their site http://www.maxabeam.com/lights.html and if you want to buy one just to review it and tell me you have one, you can buy one at the reasonable price of $1664 at Brightguy http://www.brightguy.com/detail_int.html?cart=304559116611206&sku=PEAMBPKG_B

It does have 6 million CP, but 1600 bucks, come on, who can even think about affording one?

Thanks again, Bucky

Yeah, i see those in movies all the time and on TV. I remember seeing them on the X-Files (somewhat believable) and in Jurassic Park (as believable as cloned dinosaurs) BUT John Cusak had one he took to the cemetary in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and that didn't make any sense to me.

In some ways, I am surprised that they use such expensive "props" in those shows...

Anyways, I want one. Will I ever get one? I will let you know when they do the next Powerball drawing...

I was at "Target" the other day and saw a $40.00 two million candle power rechargeable light. So I figure I'll buy 3 of them and just hold them together for 6 million.

Think it will work??

I thought the MaxaBeam was the best until I found this: http://www.law-17.com/plasma-index.html

But if anyone wants to give me a MaxaBeam, I won't turn them away!

Unfortunately, the cheap "searchlights" often have a candle power rating as inaccurate as you get for Watts on Cheap HiFi Speakers... If B&W Speakers say 150-250 Watts RMS at 8Ohms, and some cheap systems says 600Watts (Total MAX [in very small print]). I'd believe the B&W cos they give you more info than just the Watts.

Likewise with Flashlights. Candlepower is often quoted at the beam's focus which can be like 5" from the lens. Lumens is better cos it gives the total light output rather than a measure of the light's stength at an unkown point (unknown to us). Some even have the peak light colour in Kelvins of the beam, and quote figures for the beam at 10ft, 40ft etc.
I seriously doubt that even 10 $40 flashlights could project to the same distance, a spot as narrow focused and intensely white as the MaxaBeam.

My 2 cents (as an American may say)

P.S.
Has any actually got a MaxaBeam? If so can they test it against a SureFire 12PM? Please!

Well since I don't have $1700.00, why not a few $40.00 ones??

I bet there burn time is 5 minutes. But what can ya expect for $40.00 at Target??
I bet you could tan yourself with the Plasma Beam. LOL
I would hope you could for $3250.00. That thing better last for a few lifetimes and be able to wash my car.

Well as with most things (HiFi, PCs, gadgets etc etc), there is always the otherhalf to contend with. I get told off for buying batteries - even AAs from my StealthLites!

Brock, thanks for the run time info on the P61...I'll be getting a M2 Centurion so it'll be about the same me thinks.

I'm trying to do too many things at once!
The bit about the SureFire D2 and M2 was for the "Favourite Flashlight" topic.

Sorry!
