any suggestions on where to get one?
yes I have searched and asked around... :-)

GEC makes a quite good one. You may still be able to order it from STR, here on the forums - it was a special order for him.

I think there is also a tool company (maybe Klein) that still makes a TL-29 variant that would be the budget option.

NOS Electrician Knives are pretty easy to find, I've bought several in the last couple of years. Try the usual on-line sources. OH

My local orange big-box home center has them in the electrical tools area. Not sure if the blue big-box home center does.

thank you, the GEC one looks fine, I didn't realize they were making one,
also, I should have been more specific in my original post, my preference is for a handmade model if available from someone

thank you all

There are a trio of beautiful custom interpretations of electrician's knives in these threads, linked below. I don't know if they're even available for order, but they all had me drooling over the pics:

Not to take away anything from a well crafted electrician's knife, but I am not handy enough to strip insulation reliably with just a knife blade. I have a bunch of wire strippers, but they are very portable.
I found this tool at Radio Shack a few years ago. It helps with my ineptitude.View attachment 415375

Nice! Erickson and Oeser - two of my favorite traditional custom makers.

Most of the electricians and cable guys these days seem to use pliers-like strippers. Another bit of knife culture gone, alas.
