Yes, this sounds like a stupid question, but I wanted to get an idea of how much sanding you folks are doing under your Recon 1 clips to avoid killing your pockets.

Any images or info (incl re: ideal sandpaper grits, etc.) would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I did a pile of Voyagers a few years back. Pics might be around with a search under modifications. Basically I took the clips off and used a small round ball grinding stone in my hand drill. Wasn't much to it. Go easy, reattach clip and check it out. If need be go another round. Use a lighter touch, a little goes a long way. If you do pooch it up somehow I have heard of guys smearing on some J.B. Weld or somesuch.

Thanks. I’m not worried about them not looking perfect as both of my Recon 1’s will be heavily used.

The G-10 is coarse and the clip is tight. I like to address both of those issues. I reduce tension on the clip while it's attached, slowly and carefully bending it out with a loop of paracord, stopping to test until it's where I want it. Then I remove the clip and lightly sand the general area underneath the clip with fine grit paper - 400 or 600 grit. If you over-bent the clip on the first stage, now would be the time to bend it back before reattaching. I rarely over-bend though.

I took off my clip of and used some medium grit sand paper for 4 or5 light rubs. Replaced the clip and was glad I didn t rub it more.
5 minutes.
