I like the design and looks of the chinese lum. I just started collecting again and was thinking about getting one. . It seems like a practical knife, not to big.Not crazy about the color, little pricey, but its a nice piece.

Welcome to Bladeforums. :)

I had one but let it go because it wasn't doing anything for me. Unfortunately, because it's a beautiful little knife, very comfortable in the hand, and razor sharp.

It's funny how designs can develop in isolation that have so much in common. The Lum Chinese folder looks a lot like the "Nessmuk" knife to me.

marty, what you said pretty much indicates you shouldn't buy it...

..."Not crazy about the color, little pricey".........

i've had an interest in the Lum as well, but i knew i just couldn't live with the green handle. and still, 2 years later, that is still the case and i will never buy it. unless the bring out a new version with black handle

They did make the Lum in gunmetal blue but it was a limited run.
I happen to have one that gets some occasional carry.

I have the gunmetal blue version. plain edge. To me, the design is absolutely beautiful - flowing lines, great shape, nice wide razor sharp blade. pity the liners are a little thin. It's really a gent's knife. And it's a safe queen. I take it out once a while to admire the lines. wicked.

I'm really waiting for the MT whaleshark to come out. Have been dreaming about it since Jonny Liao released his design.

Well, I guess I am the lone voice of reason in this thread ;)

I have a Lum and I love it. I have never found another knife that slices as well as the Lum. I also think the design is very appealling; the flowing lines, the fact that it is as attractive closed as it it open. The handle shape is actually very good for cutting. Granted, the almite handle is slippery. For normal use, that isn't a huge deal for me.

If they made one with a grippier handle - linen Micarta would suite the design nicely - it would be in my pocket all the time.

I have to admit that mine's a safe queen too. I love it but they're not easily available any more and it's too nice to risk messing it up. I think it's one of the most beautiful and graceful looking designs out there.

I just got my hands on a one new in the box.
Now the debate is carry it or not. Wow I just looked this is an old thread

Glad you gave the old thread a breath of fresh air so I can add my $0.02. :D

I love the Lum---despite a funky handle color or not, the edge geometry and cutting performance, as well as the graceful lines, make it a winner in my book.

I have a couple black ZDP's - nice EDC.

So do I carry it and use it, or just take it out of the box and admire it once in a while.
