Anyone have a straight razor template?

I have some 52100 stock left over, and I'd like to try my first straight razor.

I'm not familiar with the 7/8 nomenclature, but does anyone have a template or a .DXF of a noob friendly straight razor design?

how thjick is your stock as that will tell you how tall you can make the razor

If you have a straight razor, you could trace it if its a pattern you like. You can pick them up pretty cheap on ebay or at antique shops/ malls. It is very handy having one in hand to go by opposed to just a two dimensinal drawing for computer file. I have only made one but plan on making more in the near future.

Is 52100 a ideal metal for a razor. Ive come to respect the razor guys alot more seeing how much thought goes into them. Before I thought easy just get a edge really sharp and done!

Good question Butch. It's a 1" round bar that I forged down to ~5/16" x ~1 1/2"

I saw a lot of folks on SRP starting with 1/4" stock, is that a good starting point?

It sounds like a good starting point to me. you could make pretty much any razor you wanted out of 5/16 X 1 1/2.

i sayb it all the time i thought i coudl make a knife sharp then i learned abut the kitchen knife world and then again i thouhgt i could make stuff sharp
and now that i make sttraight razors nearly full time i think again i know what sharp is but this time it will be hard to top
