Anyone have a Strider Military?

I received a tan military yesterday from New Graham. I really like it. I have a Strider Sng and was comparing the knives side by side. The knives are remarkably similar. The blade is centered perfect and locks up very solid. I could not figure out the stamp on one side of the blade. I guess it is the state of Idaho? I only thing I do not really like is the liner lock feels pretty sharp on my thumb. The steel liners also seem to stick up a little past the plastic handles and feels a little sharp there too. Overall I really like the knife for the money. I will probably use it alot more than I do the Sng because I won't worry about abusing it because of the reasonable price tag.

I got mine in the OD green color. I am pleased with the configuration and fit of the knife, but the black blade finish on mine leaves a lot to be desired. It is brand new, but the color looks very "cloudy" and streaky along the whole length of the blade, with the finish looking somewhat thinner towards the tip of the blade. I thought it might have been some preservative or other manufacturing residue, so I wiped it down with a cotton cloth and a little gun oil. Bad mistake! It looks even worse now. Any other owners care to remark on their blade finish? I am wondering if this is normal or if mine slipped past QC.

I recently picked up a black blade military to go with my police advocate model. I really like the police model but wanted a non-serated blade model. I really like both knives but the overall quality could be better. Neither had much of an edge on them compared to some new benchmades and spydercos that I have. I've also noticed both liner locks almost over engage, almost going past the blade to the opposite liner. They both stay on the blade but it looks like it wouldn't take much to force them past the blade. This kinda concerns me but they both hold up to the normal tests. I will echo what Slufstuff said about the black finish. It really is quite poor. Mines already got a few scratches in it from daily use. I have a 3 year old black blade benchmade that has really held up well. I don't think the buck will.

But overall I really like both knives. They are rugged as hell. They lock up solid and have a great overall design. For what I paid I really am pleased. These are working knives and so far both have done very well. I use both on a daily basis. The police model goes on duty with me and the military model is my current EDC knife off duty. I really wish I could afford a true stider but not on a cops salary. For what these buck versions cost I am really happy. I won't feel to bad if I lose or break one. They truely are a poorman's Strider.

So I guess I really shouldn't bitch too much. It's not like I paid $300 for the real thing.

I bought an 887SBT Police Advocate a couple of weeks ago. I also would have preferred a plain edge, but it was the first one I've seen in Calgary - and I haunt most of the shops on a pretty frequent basis. Mine was also not as sharp as I would have expected, considering I have more than few Bucks (for me, there's a pun in there - I own about 70 folders, give or take :D ) in my collection. It was "working sharp" not razor/hair popping sharp like my 110's/112, Rush, etc or my BM's or Spydies. Pretty thick blade, though. Nothing that my DMT couldn't cure in a couple of swipes :) My liner lock is fine but I had trouble with the clip screws. I think they are supposed to be T6, but it seemed a bit loose. I could only get one of the screws out on either side, so I just left it. It's not a big enough issue for me to send it in and risk getting it seized coming back across the border. The detent on mine is sticky, especially when closing. It's getting better, so I'm figuring it's just a wear in thing. The liner on my Buck Alpha Folding Hunter was one that had the liner go over half way to 3/4 depending on whether I thumbed it open or flicked it. It hasn't moved, but again, when every other linerlock I have is "just engaged", kinda makes you wonder a bit.

I paid about $100 CDN for it (NIB), and feel that it's a great value. It's built like a tank - fit and finish is very good for this type of knife. On mine the handle slabs were quite sharp on edges, but after carrying it for a bit, it's worn down and become very comfortable. I will probably acquire an 889 when they show up here. Also, this is probably as close as I'm going to get to a Strider ;)

I have the black handle SBMF. It's a pretty heavy-duty folder. The liner lock is STIFF, compared to others I've used (Gerber ARS, Kershaw Whirlwind). It seems to be made for some very serious use.

The blade coating isn't beautiful, but I take it this knife is made to be used hard. It wasn't particularly sharp out of the box. I like the blade shape and overall styling and I get the impression I'll be able to use it for a long time before I screw something up on it. I wish I could say the same thing for my favorite Spyderco.
