Hey guys, Anyone have an Aftershock? How does it compare to the CQC-13? How do the ergos feel? The handle reminds me of the Roadhouse--is that an accurate assessment? Your insights would be great--insights + pics, even better. ;)

I got one recently and like it well enough. The blade is closer to the 12 than the 13 which is why I wanted one, one of the best blade shapes I have used. The handle is its own design but it is probably most similar to the roadhouse. Mine came buttery smooth from the factory, no cleaning and lube needed. If you like the bowie blades I'd say go for it. I'd post some pics but won't be home till friday.

Thanks, I think the Roadhouse handle might be my favorite, and I love Bowies. The EKI is just down the freeway from me, so I'm tempted to drive down and try it out--time is tight though.

Still undecided guys... anyone, anything more to add? Thanks--

I think you need to cruise over to EKI and handle one to really know. I must say that out of the knives with the Roadhouse like handle, I like the Aftershock the most. Do I own one, no as I'm not a fan of the Roadhouse handle though the Aftershock has a deepened indexfinger choil compared to the Roadhouse or Combat Systems Fighter. Do love the Aftershock blade as it's similar to the CQC-12 and the CQC-45 if not the same with the exception of the swedge grind.

Thanks Rayster--EKI seems to be out of the black plain edge blade, so I'll wait until they are back. Even better through a dealer, since they are a bit less expensive and I won't have to pay sales tax. If I can wrangle some time from an otherwise full schedule, I'd love to cruise back down to their shop.

What is it about the Aftershock (12/45) bowie that you prefer over the 13? Is it the "height" of the tip? I might prefer the higher tip--not sure. I did love the looks the Appalachian--still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on a black bladed one of those.

Thanks for chiming in here and in the other thread--much appreciated

I agree with you one the sales tax as it is a fair bit given the price of the knife. I'd rather have more than several big lunches from the savings from a out of state dealer.

The 12/45 blade does indeed have a lower tip which is also stronger IMO. I sold my 13 and Appalachian due to the raised tip which got thin and pointy. Did break the tip on my Appalachian the day I got it.

Yeah, a little bit more money in my pocket is always a good thing! :D

As for the tip, I get it; though I can see myself using the upswept tip/clip on food prep and fish gutting, so I would't plan to use it too hard. Decisions, decisions...

I wasn't too impressed with the one I held at a dealer recently, it's like a Sheepdog Bowie but without the flipper and smooth action. If you really want a Bowie I would go that route.
