I'm in a bind. I just bought a Greco Falcon from a retailer and broke the stud switching it over to lefty. These are fragile studs! Don't tighten anything past snug.
I don't know how John used to handle warranty but now that he's out of the biz he said he'll send me a parts kit for $10 and $15 postage. Yikes! Out another $25 and never used the darn knife. Bad vibes to start off with, sadly.
Well, I'm looking for another option. Does anyone have one of these parts kits with an extra stud I could buy? --Or stud NUT, in particular?
If you try to buy a stud from a knife parts company you get the $5 extra postage as well, so I don't want to do that either. (This was already the priciest knife I've bought.)
I publish a "do it yourself" outdoor culture mag called "Out Your Backdoor." Check it out at OutYourBackdoor.com. I'd happily send someone the last huge issue plus whatever cash in trade for a stud.
Then, too, I'm somewhat tempted to just epoxy something in there. But I just had to do this with a $5 Rough Rider. Again with the bad vibes. I feel like I'd be messing up a fine knife. --Even though it's going to be my Hard Worker in the shop. It just seems weird to be epoxying up my best knife even before using it. But I don't REALLY mind customizing: I could rig up a black two-sided stud. Might be fine. I've been trying the hardware stores. Already spending a lot of time on this darn thing. I can find a black bolt but no black nuts.
Oh well! I'm new at the knife hobby. This was going to be my "cool" knife to show off. I dunno, maybe I should just sell it. $65 would get me back to even. I can't decide.
Any ideas? --Jeff Potter
