Anyone have an HID light yet?

Yep, I have the UK. Very nice, but I get annoyed with the warmup time--around 4-5 seconds. The McCulloch has nice output but I can't deal with the ergonomics (or lack thereof). It's a bargain for the light output if you can live with it.

I haven't compared the quantitative data yet. Just curious--I can't afford the X990 anyway and would prefer a waterproof light anyway.

I love The Prisoner by the way. I watched it as a kid and have watched all the episodes on video at least once or twice.

This is from memory, so may not be exact, but the UK uses a 5 watt HID bulb, and the Mc Culloch uses a 35 watt, same as used in automotive applications. There is not a linear relationship between watts and brightness, so it's not 7X brighter, but it's definitely "a lot" brighter. The UK is roughly as bright as a Surefire M6, the Mc Culloch is in another league entirely.

I believe one of our members owns the Mc C. and has used it to turn off streetlights--making them think the sun has come up...

I think the UKE uses the 10w HID, and it draws about 11w of battery power. The best part is the light puts out about 20w to 25w of (incandescent) light :)

I own the x990 and it is WAY brighter than my M6....and the UK light Cannon. In fact, my 44$ Vector dual beam 3 mm CP from Target is brighter (lots of drawbacks I discussed at cpf though... you should still own this light!) than my N6 or 12Z.

The x990 is quite similar to the Beast in output from what I have heard of some side by sides. Obviously heavier, but cheaper, available now and rechargeable.

Then, the Maxabeam comes to mind as my next flashlight!
