I like the look, and I think they would be great in the bush. But at $128 I sure would like to know what others that own them think.

No wonder it's so pricey. 100% wool, built in hood and 'A' pocket. Long enough that you can add a duty belt with other gear, which will help to cinch the shirt closed on the bottom for more warmth. I like it.

As long as it satisfies your need, then it's a good investment. I'd want more pockets, but the one chest pocket would probably work for you.

The 103 Bush Shirt is an excellent piece of kit, I wear one every day, along with a swannie Ranger Shirt beneath that and then an Icebreaker base layer. I don't really need to but I fell comfortable with it. I've seen wind, rain, snow and shine with this combination and it's pretty versatile because you can ventilate as much or as little as you like.

Now the Bush Shirt is not waterproof but water doesn't go straight through it (it's quite thick and reppels water to a certain extent), and it seems you can quite easily wring it out if it get soaked and still keep warm. It's got an inner lay for the main body and hood which increases wind resistance siginificantly, plus it's very warm and'll keep your a$$ toastie! So it's not windproof or waterproof but it's not at all bad. Not the first choice for open, exposed land but great for forests.

It's also very tough, I've been through a big bramble patch with it on and it looked no worse for wear on the other side. If you are in windy conditions I'd recommend taking a windbreaker or at the very least putting a belt around your waist to keep the warm air in, because warm air getting blown out from below is the only way I've come to feel cold in it.

I'm wearing the above for a 2-3 day trip starting tomorrow so if you want more info on how it tests in the field, I might have some more info next week. Ofcourse I'll be taking a poncho incase it rains really hard over gets very windy.

Outting was cut short due to LOTS of rain, poor ground conditions and a not so well built shelter (live and learn). However I spent nearly an hour walking out of there, in the rain, and the swanni was fine. It got a bit water logged but didn't get wet through to the inside, unlike my jeans (I know, I know), plus it was almost dry by the time I got home.

You know how you protect some gear and are very careful what you do with it? You don't have to do that with this thing, it can take alomst anything. You'd do well to get one.

My perfect clothing set up would be Icebreaker top and longjohns, Swanni Ranger shirt, Swanni Bush shirt, Filson Tin Cloth bibs Packer coat and hat, merino wool socks and a pair of White's Smoke Jumpers. I can't think of anything better than that combo.

This shirt is definately worth the money.

Thanks a bunch! Next payday Im getting me one of Swanndri's hoodies.
But;)
Im not giving up my Carharts pants. I water proofed the knees (with that wax/liquid used for Auzi rain slikers) and find that perfect for me.

Sorry to hear you got rained out. There's always next weekend though. The bush aint going no were (I hope).

JJW,

For what it's worth, the Swannies were quite popular with the guys when I was down in Antarctica. I got to spend about 6 months down there courtesy of the United States Navy. I still kick myself when I think about having the chance to buy a Swannie when I was in New Zealand and passed on it. Oh well. While they were popular in McMurdo (Antartica), it was the summer season so temps were in the 30's to 50's (F) and it was very dry so I can't speak to their wet weather capabilities. Nevertheless, these are still on my "wish list"!

Cheers,

- Mike

I've never owned the vest or shirt but I did own the Swanni and the pants to go with it for bowhunting. Just last month sold them and they were/are without a doubt the finest camo wool hunting clothes I have ever worn. Just kind of out grew them. I wore them specifically for bowhunting and didn't hunt in anything else for over 10 yrs. Looked brand new almost with no runs, wrents, or tears in them. Basically the jacket was water proof. Never got wet in it at all. Extremely well made stuff. Can't say enough good things about it. Keep'em sharp

PS just looked at the site and they are callling the jacket I wore for yrs. the shirt. Trust me on this it is the BEST camo wool I have worn. I have tried ony KOM as the other I have worn but didn't stand up to the Swandri stuff
