Just curious really, anyone have some kydex, or nylon, etc sheaths for their kuks? Im looking for something that I can strap on and go, that if the knife is upside down or any which way it isnt gonna come out. I love the one it came with, but kinda looking for something more modern I guess. Jumpable sheath comes to mind.

Anyone have any pictures?

Someone on here has an awesome leather, quick release sheath with a baldric... was it Cpl Punishment? I don't quite recall and don't have access to the search function

I've got a kydex sheath with Teklok for my HI Kerambit that Dan Koster made for me. It was 1 of a run of 5, IIRC.

Yeah, not "jumpable" or something you'll wear upside down for sure, but it is custom. . .

I didn't make Cpl Punishment's sheath but can do it for people. It's a nice looking sheath for sure.

I've been looking around for something myself. Similar to the OP's requirements. I want a dual Martial Arts set up that can be worn while training and not have to worry about the knives falling out.

I may end up investing in making a setup. I'm not sure yet (if I can't find someone to do it that's the plan).

I plan on making something similar to that for the Super CAK.

I had thought of making a piggyback sheath on it for a kumar karda, but after giving it more thought I'm going to piggyback a Becker Knife & Tool Necker with it instead.

Thanks for the links Karda!

CPL, man you always seem to have such awesome stuff, that sheath is beautiful.

I do alot of running, climbing, jumping, when I go hiking and camping, one the original HI sheath is a bit too bulky, and doesnt retain the knife quite as well as I want. It is a great well made sheath dont get me wrong, just dont want to risk losing my CAK, I feel like its my long lost child lol.

The problem with most HI products, is that they are not easily retained in a Western manner -- i.e. such that they can be worn upside down, jumpable, etc. Retaining straps tend to hold the handle in place and keep it from swaying, but can't really stop them from dropping free. Only way to really do that would be to have a TIGHT strap holding the handle above the center ridge in the handle. If you have a non-traditional handle, like on the M43, that won't work, either.

IMO I've found that HI sheaths tend to be on the tight side, and the blades not that easy to get out. At least on the kukris. On knives, some just fall right out. But there again, most knives they have don't have guards, and it's real hard to do a good retention sheath in leather or kydex for them.

Now granted, I am an Iaidoka used to drawing Japanese swords, but I have never had any problem with Nepalese style scabbards, I can draw from them instantly, and I like that they are stiff because it means you don't need any snaps or buckles or anything to hold it in.

To my eyes, the quick release scabbard is the one with a user capable of drawing the weapon fluidly.

My preferred method of carrying a kukuri is without a frog, thrust upside down into a thick sash or obi, but in the woods I usually carry it Gurkha style over the left buttock on a military belt.

LOL, sure, go right ahead.

That wasn't even the original intention. Originally, I wanted the sheath for the knife to be able to ride horizontally on my belt, but then I was looking at the whole rig and had an epiphany.
