Anyone have experience sending in disassembled knives?

So I thought I was going to fix the axis lock on my 940 (sigh) and the long and short of it is I can't get it back together. I have all the parts afaik and I live in Oregon near their HQ. I'm hoping I can send the knife in to someone to get it back in working shape. It's been sitting in my closet for over a year now because I was too embarrassed to admit that I couldn't get it back together myself and didn't want to ask for help but I really miss carrying the thing. If I send it to Benchmade can they reassemble it for me?

Thanks!

Benchmade will put it right for sure. I can even recall in a vid one of the BM guys saying that if you can't put it back together, send it in they will and do warranty check as well. Free of charge

Kris,.

I am sure they will reassemble if for you, whether or not it will be free is up to them. Officially reassembly will cost about $20 I think. But they will of course have the option of not charging you. If you live close, I suggest bringing the knife over to them in person and taking it to the life sharp station. Perhaps one of those guys will put it back together for you free and tune it up too.

This ^^^

If you are close to BM, it would be a lot faster if you took it in personally. Plus it would save them having to pack it up and ship it back to you as well. Win Win :D

Search YouTube for Axis reassembly. All Axis lock are pretty much the same. Not that hard.

It actually is pretty hard and you would know that if you had ever tried to assemble a 940. I've never had problems with other axis knives but the 940 just does not want to go together.

What part are you having issues with? We can help if you can be more specific than it wont go back together. Is it getting the axis bar and springs into the liners or getting the scales onto the partial liners?

ALSO, I DO KNOW because I have taken apart a 810, 550, 940 and 940-1 in the last few weeks. IT IS EASY compared to a 580 barrage. There are many videos that show how to reassemble an axis youtube.

I almost had to do this the one and only time I took my Grip apart, you need about 4 hands to hold the springs right and fit everything into place. After about 2 hours and many usage of words starting with F and rhyming with duck, I finally got it.

The liners, stop pin, axis bar and springs should all fit together with just two hands. You can pinch and hold it together easily one handed. Once the stop pin and axis bar are in, the springs hold themselves. One end loops the bar and the other end fits into a hole in the liner. I have never had to hold an omega spring in place. Watch some videos, sip your favorite beverage, relax and learn how to put it back together.

The only bad thing that can happen is a stripped screw. No internal pieces will go back together in a way that hurts them. Don't cross thread, strip or force those tiny little screws and all is well. Just keep at it, try different sequences of parts. I know you can do it. The question is will you do it? If you get it, you will feel accomplished and love the knife even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't comment on the 940 (haven't taken mine apart yet), but if its like the mini presidio it shouldn't be too bad after some finicking about get used to it. I do agree about the barrage, took apart both a 581 (de-assist) and a 586 (just to see) and they were both a pain. Good luck with another try or benchmade service. I haven't asked them to reassemble anything but their service has been outstanding every time I've used it.

If you do send it to Benchmade for reassembly I believe it comes back to you fully covered under warranty again. That is what I was told by Benchmade anyways.
