I bought one of these and was surprised at how "gritty" the opening is. It feels like the blade is grinding against the handles when the knife is opened. Is this normal for this particular knife, or could I possibly have a defective one? It really feels crappy opening it, like there are no bearings inside. By far the least smooth knife I have ever opened. If you have one, can you tell me if this is a design characteristic, or defect?

Clean it out then let it break in. If it's the least smooth knife you have ever opened then you have very limited knife experience. I have some you need pliers to pull open. :)

Give it some time. It's made by a company that very rarely misses that bad like you are describing. I don't know of counterfeits of that model but I'm not an expert in fakes either.

It should be fine after you clean it out and let it break in. If you are really just unhappy about it try sending it back. Good luck.

Thank you - will try to clean it out tonight and post results. True, I am only a few years into my knife addiction. Don't get me wrong, have had knives that required a lot of force to open, but once the detente gives they do not grind. It does not appear to be a counterfeit, but that is also a fair point.

Alright so cleaning did not fix the issue, but I found burrs on the underside of the lock bar. A bit of light filing and the grinding is gone. Thanks, Mastiff...disassembly helped to discover the problem. Surprised this was necessary at this price point, but its a different knife now. Interestingly, there were no washers or bearings of any kind..just the blade on the pivot assembly sandwiched by the handles. The steel is really nice on this knife, so quite happy to have a fairly smooth action.
