I'm considering them because of a foot problem that responds either to this kind of sole or to surgery. Actually had the surgery on one foot last year and it was of marginal use; now the other foot is getting worse.

Any ideas?

My wife has a pair of the Fit Flops, which operate off of a similar principle, and swears by them. Skechers also makes a similar line of shoes, if you want some more selection in styles.

I have a pair. I like 'em. Don't wear them too often, but when I do, I feel the difference. Legs feel good when walking in them.

I just bought my first pair and have pancakes for feet. I've been wearing orthotics since I was 18. They take some getting used to, but are BY FAR the best shoes in terms of comfort I've worn. If you have orthotics, the liner is removable and will fit them easily. They are not inexpensive, but I believe Herrington is offering the loafers for $160/pair. I bought lace-ups at the Walking Co and paid over $300. Once you get used to the sole you will not want to wear another shoe!
