Anyone have experience with Solidworks?

Ive recently acquired solidworks for use in drawing handle scales/knife blades to send to my friend who will be doing mill work/water jetting for me. Problem is i am having trouble learning the software. I was stupid to think I would be able to pick it up and be a professional instantly. If anyone has experience using the software id love to chat with you. Local training classes cost 1000 dollars for 3 days of learning :barf:

I'm not sure about posting links, so just google "Solidworks for designers". Its the book they used to teach us in my college level class, and it is very thorough (version 2008). I've interned for a company using solidworks, and the book had tutorials on everything I ever needed to model. If you just have a specific question and don't want to buy the book, post it up here and I might be able to help you.

I didnt even think to order a book, thanks for the suggestion. Just ordered the Solidworks 2010 bible.
 
The tutorial is very good. It teaches you all you need to know. Start using it, then go look up any other problems you come across.

It is not the easiest program to learn, but with lots of practice it is possible. I have used Autocad at the University of North Dakota where I teach and we are moving to Solidworks this year. It is a neat program with lots of potential.

Amazing program, solidworks for dummies is a waste of money, but if you want my copy I'll sell it to you :D

You have to be very thorough in your construction techniques, look after the details and it is one of the most powerful drafting/modeling programs available
