I recently received s CAK made by Bhakta. I would love to know any information about the maker. He or she? How long have they been making blades for HI? Characteristics of their work? Any info....

Can anyone help me out?

A few weeks ago Yangdu posted that Bhakta had left HI after new work rules were put into place.

Lately we have been seeing more blades by him, so I hope that means Bhakta reconsidered and has returned. It might mean that Yangdu is selling blades that he did before he left. Perhaps Yangdu can clear this up for us.

I'm not sure about Bhakta's background, but he does very good, very consistent work. The other day I identified one of his blades just from the photo based on the deep, sharply defined fullers. Maybe I was lucky, but that is typical of his work.

There've been some photos of him, with other kamis, posted here in the past year or two, but you'd have to search for them.

I have two CAKs by him and both are very good quality.

However, they are VERY different. While they are similar in weight and OAL their profiles could not be more different. One has a spine that I would describe as predominately 3/8 and has a broad blade. The other is very thick at 1/2 mostly and has a very narrow blade.

It's one of those things that make collecting HIs SO addictive...........each one has a character of their own. One 18" Sirupate seems like enough, then you see one with slightly different features you like more..........until you have 3. Then you end up with 2-4 of everything.

Bhakta's work is easy to spot once you've been around a while. His fullering work is impressive. If you compare one of his ang kholas to an early Bura or Sher you wouldn't guess they are the same model. He made his blades very dui chirra like with long flowing fullers that extend back to the ricasso. Very well done blades and mine were always very nicely finished.

Bhakta Kami left Birgorkha shop few months back. He is not making knife of HI these days. This one is from old stock.
