I saw an advertisement in Blade for a Fox Fighter #4 from Greco knives, and it looks very interesting. Does anyone have one of these, and can give me some information on it?

I tried calling John Greco, but got the answering machine.

Hello,

I, too, saw the ad in Blade and I couldn't help myself so I ordered one immediately. I must say I am most pleased. The ergonomics are great, it's sharp with impeccable grind lines, and it has a good sheath.

However, the handle slabs do overlap a tad bit here and there - they are probably made separate from the blade and just bolted on later without any finishing to save time/money. This does not take anything away from the comfort of the knife and you wouldn't notice if you weren't looking for it.

The steel is 8670 - a German Cr/Ni alloy carbon steel with .7 carbon content. It is differentially heat treated to Rc 58-59 at the blade. John says performance should be a bit better than 1095 thanks to the heat treat.

All in all, a great using knife at a great price.

Later,

MBS
