I'm just curious if anyone has one of these and if they're worth the $180.00. Seems pretty reasonable to me - just wanted to know if someone has put one through the ringer.

Tanto Blade offers excellent piercing strength in blade tip. Perfect stopper for doorjambs.
• Sawtooth serration on blade spine offers a secondary cutting surface that is effective on rope, webbing or can saw through wood. Deep, flat bevel grind gives a razor thin edge.
• Blade material: 154CM stainless steel hardened to 58-60HRC.
• BT2® Black Blade absorbs light, allowing easy concealment and impeding blade corrosion.

Tang:
• Solid, full-tang foundation.
• Protruding tang with lanyard hole provides a window-breaking edge—sturdy enough to pound a nail.
• G10 scales machined on wrap handle provide a firm grip.

Sheath:
• Strong and durable—Constructed from molded Kydex®/Thermoplastic.
• Keeps knife and user safe—Primarily designed for inverted carrying so knife won’t fall out.
• Lockable—Two detents keep knife secure.
• Easy carry—Can be mounted for high or low carry. Holes allow for lashing to leg or arm for customized carry.

Fits up to 2" belt. Dimensions: Blade Length: 4.5" (11.43cm) Thickness: .115" (2.92mm) Overall: 9.45" (24.00cm) Weight: 6.20 oz. (175g) Handle Thickness: 0.5" (1.48cm) Sheath Weight: 3.44 oz. (97g)

They are benchmades. I am sure they are of good quality.

But they seem to be overpriced variations on the nimravus, about 70 bucks more than the Nimravus with M2 steel. 80 more than the 154 CM.

Seems overpriced to me. And the Blackwater claim that it is "The #1 selling military knife" is hyperbole.

Also, how would you rate the durability/quality/bang for buck of a Benchmade versus a TOPS?
I really like TOPS knives.
First TOPS is made in the USA, so their probably going to be more expensive.
Second, they use high carbon steel, which is stronger, but more likely to rust, but the coating helps a lot. Also, many of TOPS models are thick, which means that they are very strong. If you're looking for a thinner one, the Pasatayan sp? is a really nice utility knife that works well in the kitchen.

Personally, I really like TOPS knives. I met one of their company dealers at a show here not too long ago, and he was really nice, not pushy at all, and was a happy to let me handle whatever I wanted to. So far I've owned 4 Tops knives, and they are just as good as any. Fit and Finish are also really good for tactical knives.

I ended up getting my nimravus for 80 bucks. I have no objections, although they could do something about the black overshot on the blade. Doesn't hold up to well. Screw it, you should just get a stryder and be done with it.

TOPS makes great knives, and they have a million different designs, too. I've owned three of them. They came razor sharp, they're solid, and easy to maintain. Definitely better deal than Strider.
