Anyone have one of these yet ?

While rather nice looking, the scales being smaller than the handle area of the knife would make it uncomfortable for hard use.

That's a blatant Busse Active Duty clone, sabre grind and all, but at least it should cut better and be more stain resistant than the real thing.
Like VA27 said, the handles ruin it, too.

So this is the new Camillus? AUS-8 all around, and their folders there look like they belong in a case at the gas station:barf:

If you think it's an active duty clone now, you should have seen the older version, before they removed Jerry's trademarked front talon hole.

Camillus is camillus in name only, after being bought out. I wouldn't waste my money on anything new they put out.

edit: this is what it used to look like.

That's a bummer, I really loved the old Camillus. This is a nice looking knife, but I gotta agree with the others. As soon as I saw it, I thought "That looks exactly like my AD!"

It looks like losing the talon hole was an improvement for this knife. The "original" copy seems like it had it too far back, and all up in your index finger's business.

Smaller scales than tang - no thanks. Nasty looking grind and why the paint job on AUS-8? I have to agree with the others, it belongs in the dollar bin knock-off section next to the gas station cash register.

Didn't you have one of the Buck Diamondback knives Pit?

I know kgd did. If that wasn't you, I'd suggest the Buck. For the price its still hard to beat. If you want something non-Chinese, the Buck Boone and Crocket comes in about $3 less than that Camillus and is US made.

The small Diamondback is only $20 but is chinese.

Yeah I do have the small Diamondback, great little knife for the money....might take it out today now you've reminded me !!!:D:thumbup:

That looks like a nice little upgrade on that buck!

Nothing wrong with the quality of the Chinese Buck knives, I have four or five of them and they perform just as well as the American made ones IMO.

BTW I like the looks of the Camillus as well. Probably won't try one though.

i wouldn't support a company that rips off another's hard work regardless if the knife looks good. How many would still buy a chinese ripoff if it were stealing from one of the maker's from this board like Koyote, Stomper, etc...?

I say there is a difference between right and wrong. Just my .02. Carry on:rolleyes:

Agreed. I've had my issues with the Busse family, but I still think it's sleazy for the new company camillus-in-name-only to rip them off. The AD is a signature Busse design, and the blatant ripoff is just plain crappy. Even without the talon hole it's still an obvious ripoff and further convinces me that camillus is not camillus at all, it's just another cheap knockoff company spitting out lousy copies.

I wouldn't take one if you paid me to.

Besides, THIS knife looks a lot better than that cheap knockoff POS could ever look, and I bet it performs a heck of a lot better too

To be honest I think the camillus looks better then the busse.
I'd like the bamboo to cover the whole tang, but you can't have every thing you want in life.
I'd might just pick one up.

I have a daimondback outfitter and it's a SUPERB bushcraft design. Cheap plastic handles and 420 steel but for a beginner looking for a budget belt knife I don't think it can be beat. There are alot of nice knives for the money and this one appears to be no exception. AUS8 may be the only stainless steel I really like as a bushcrafting steel, just because of it's superb balance of edge retention, ease of maintenance (takes a rediculous edge with next to no work) and blade strength. This one's going on the wishlist. PS the HEST's scales are significantly less wide than the tang and it still offers a superb full grip for such a small knife. I wouldn't hold that against this design.

the smaller scales might not be ideal, but they make the price cheaper and ... well, i've never used anything with the tang sicking thru the scales like that so i can't say how bad it might be. the Ti coating probably isn't needed, and i'm curious about how crappy the nylon sheath might be.

there's lots of copying in many fields. i try not to buy stuff that i know is cloned, but sometimes it's hard to know, or you only find out afterwards.

that Buck Boone & Crockett looks interesting and inexpensive, but the one listing i looked at didn't even say what the steel was... and the Bucks i've tried over the years didn't impress me with edge retention. seemed like the steel choice was based more on having something that wouldn't stain and would look good when someone pulled it out of a trunk a year later for that one hunting trip of the year.

sorry, doubletap.

no clue what the problem is, but it took me over an hour to make a post, doubletap it, and get it to let me edit it. everything's working normally on my end, so this shouldn't be happening.

and *delete* is not an option.
