I have a breifcase in Tobacco Brown (going on three years old), an iPhone pouch in Tobacco Brown and a wallet in Dark Coffee Brown (each about six months old). SBL doesn't really have a Chocolate Brown color in the middle.
IMHO, the Dark Coffee Brown is a little too dark. Against a light background, it appears black to my eyes. Only when you put it against a black background does it appear as a very dark shade of brown. That said, I do like the Coffee Brown for a wallet. I prefer a darker looking wallet. The Coffee wears well and looks nicer, more rugged and more brown with age.
*** Update *** after receiving a Coffee Brown Ipad case, I'm totally sold on the Dark Coffee Brown color! The bigger case really shows the brown color.
The Tobacca Brown starts off looking a little too suede-like for my liking. If fact, when I got my bag, I debated on exchanging it for another color because it was so light. Don't get me wrong, the breifcase is outstanding I just wasn't sure on the color. I'm very glad I kept it though. The color has darkened nicely over the years to a more mediumish sort of brown and in another three years or so it should be just where I want it
When I got my iPhone pouch, I worked on speeding up the darkening process. I applied a couple of coats of Lexol oil. Each day I would spend a few minutes here and there rubbing the pouch between my hands with the phone inside (think summoning a Genie from a bottle). Eventually the finish smoothed and the color darkened to a nice deep brown.
