Anyone have really bad luck with a specific knife brand?

I will explain, as I type 1 handed due to the large bandage and throbbing of my left hand, I realize although I love Spyderco knives, they hate me. I have about 100 folders all quality production oes from Benchmade, Kershaw, ZT, Spyderco, Emerson, and EESE. I have about 25 Spyderco's and with every one of them I have cut myself severely within 48 hours of bringing each one home my worst one was my zdp-189 calypso, 3 severe cuts in 3 days, my Military took the tip of my thumb off and today my 1 day old Gayle Bradley bit my left thumb real deep, am I cursed or does anyone else have a similar problem? BTW I have never cut myself with any other knife of mine.

Sounds like Spydies aren't for you? Or maybe you're expecting to cut yourself, so you do (you know, the old "self-fulfilling prophecy").

you need to learn a little respect for sharp knives it seems. ive gotten bit on occasion due to operator error. but what your saying is something on a level of magnitude much higher.

i think its lack of respect. carelessness and maybe a dash of clumsiness.

I have been bitten by my Spideys and Kershaws. They seem to be the sharpest out of the box compared to other brands. But I also get cut each time I put a new blade in my Xacto knife too.

I did manage to slice a good bit of the tip of one finger by closing a freshly sharpened SAK against my leg, not watching what I was doing. Inattentiveness is my problem.

Hibben knives... a friend bumped me and I dropped a thrower into my left hand/wrist just shy of my veins. Never touched a hibben to this day

I got cut alot when I was first learning to flip butterfly knives. I have 3 of them but only cut my self with the Bear&Son. That knife has sliced my right hand about five times.

Gerber.

I broke one of their multi-tools (pliers) - and wasn't really using it that hard.

One of their folding knives - the clip screws stripped after a cleaning session. The knife wasn't that old.

Luckily they were inexpensive so I donated them to the landfill gods and chalked it up to experience. It turned me off and I haven't even considered any other products from them.

They are cursed and will seek your blood with every opportunity. Best ship all 25 off to me and I'll 'store' them for you carefully so they don't hurt any one else. :D

The only two common reasons for a person to get cut by a knife are defective locks and operator error. Of the two, the latter is by far the most common, in this thread and elsewhere.

The only brand I've had consistently unacceptable quality from is "Pakistan;" so much so that I refuse to buy their knives anymore, and my collection and I are the better for it.

Plus 1 to this!

It's a good thing the OP doesn't have bad luck with his guns. :p

I think it is definitely operator error and self fulfilling prophecy but I can't believe 1 the coincidence and 2 that other than a minor bite from a zdp-189 leek it only happens with new Spyderco's it is so wierd. I don't do anything different with them and about 75% of the time I carry an Emerson or ZT.

They're just asserting their dominance over you. Perfectly natural thing for them to do. Kinda like a dog marking a tree to stake out territory.

Not in respect of damaging myself with it, not in physical way anyway, it did hurt my feelings though because of my high expectations.

Bark River is the one I absolutely hate from the ones I have, the blade heat treatment is just terrible. The steel is so soft I was able to remove original satin finish and polish it mirror by hand with a piece of cloth and some green compound. I took it to woods once and carved a walking stick with it that caused the edge to blunt as I used a bastard file on it and the worse part it chipped in the mid of the edge. I am still wondering how in the world the A2 steel can be so soft and yet brittle at the same time. I heard mostly positive things about them before, so may be it's just that particular blade that did not get proper heat treating.
I can't even sell the darn thing now for a fair price because of the chip, my 1st and last BRKT.

Maybe you should sell all your knives and try a new hobby:confused:

It sounds like you need a remedial class in safe knife handling. You did not say what you were doing when these accidents occurred, but I am guessing that you were not really using these knives, but rather playing with them.

Knife playing can be done safely, but it is more dangerous than responsible utility use. Moving faster than your skill level is a common cause of cuts, so maybe slowing down whatever you do would be helpful in keeping more of your blood inside of you.
